New Cartridge 6.8 Western

Some might still use Pratt and Whitney's. The ones I mentioned actually rifle with a CNC machine. The CNC can control the rifling twist to the 4th decimal point when cut rifling.

1% of hunters kill big game over 300 yards. This is just another appeal to would be sniper types.

The only really new 277 is the Fury.

Where does the 1% figure come from? I would think it's much higher than that. Probably every customer I have had over the yrs has shot a big game animal over 300 yards. I would think tons of hunters in the west have killed game over 300 yards. Is the 1% what you think it is or is there an actual fact stating this from some source. Plus all this discussion is right here on long range hunter. I'm sure at least half the people on this site don't even count 300 as long range. I doubt very many on here call themselves a sniper type either.
I agree bout this new 270 not being different enough to matter really. I'm glad the 8 twist is coming but I really think a 270RPM would be cooler.

WY/ID/MT study showed average Elk kill 135 yards.
Of the 107 big game animals I've killed, one was over 300 @ 327 lasered.
How many active hunters on this site who kill everything at 500 + ?
How many hunters nation wide ?
I rest my case.

Now it's kill everything at 500 plus. 3 states average for elk kills doesn't convince me either. If that's the proof your resting your case on well ok.

I guide elk hunters in Northern Idaho. . . timber country, not open breaks. Practically all of our elk are killed in clearcuts, and the average range is 200 yards, we kill a lot at 300 and a lot closer than 200, but it averages out about 200. We don't kill a lot much over 300 for the simple fact most of our hunters are from back east and aren't comfortable shooting farther than 300 max. If I have a hunter comfortable to 500 or farther I have a lot more options on where to hunt, because if he is comfortable at 500 he is dang sure going to be comfortable at 50. I've killed most of my elk at over 400 or under 75, simply depending on whether I was hunting the timber or open. Because I'm comfortable out to 800 (longest range elk killed was 820) I tend to set up across the canyon from where I think elk are going to come out if hunting the open. You can usually see better and you don't have to worry about wind or movement so much. Obviously I can't do this with a hunter who has never shot a deer over a hundred yards and is comfortable at 250 at best.
I would say a heck of a lot more than 1% of hunters that have killed multiple elk have shot one over 300, even if it was only 315. Now if you are counting all those hunters back east that only hunt around home and live in states where they can't even use centerfire rifles, I still don't think we are getting down to your 1% figure, but we are getting closer.

I've been a .270 guy for 50+ years and the only solution to get the high bc fast twist solution so it doesnt conflict with current .270win is simple. It would be well received, automatically accepted in all circles of shooters and kill dinosaurs over a mile.

If it is the brain child of an American Rifle company then the 6.8 western is a no-go. Them basturds haven't been able to produce rifles with correct twist rates for the 243, 270, 280, 7RM, 7mm-08....... for years now. If they haven't figured out twist rates, why the hell would I want some cartridge they came up with? Nope, they are not very bright. Hornady looks like a frigging marketing and ammo genius just because they put correct twist rates in their ammo specs when they develop their rounds. No, don't want some round created by a mismanaged company that doesn't listen to customers.

The only statistics that I trust are those that I made up myself. My one class in statistics taught me that it is the art of lying with numbers. A good statistician can make the data say anything that he or she wants it to.
