Berger 245 in 30 nosler

I'm running the 230 at 2950 for best accuracy with room to get 3025 and no pressure issues with H1k. Should have no problem getting 2900 from a 26 inch barrel.

Id try the 245s but I'm limited with a 10 twist.

I have 6 boxes of 230s so I'm in good shape. I've shot 1 red hind, 2 mature 170-180 south Texas white tails and 4 doe with it from 100-600 yards. All had a golf ball sized exit with blood spraying for those that took a step.

I agree with the numbers above but the 230 is reported to be a little thicker in the jacket (approx. 003). The performance im seeing backs that up as I wasn't getting pass throughs on even small Texas deer with the 215.

I'm a believer that velocity isn't the end all be all with bergers considering the bc and weight. I'm thinking of building a short barreled 300 short mag with a goal of 2600 from the muzzle. That will get me 2000 fps at 500 yards. Should be a great deer lease rifle where most shots are under 300 yards.

Lance a 300NMI will run 100fps faster than a straight 30 Nosler, a 30 -28 will get closer but not quite.
I have no doubt about this claim at all. Maybe even a touch more.

I have run the 230s in a .300NMI up to 3100. My .300RUM runs them at 3113, and that was worked up before N570 and RL33 were around. Meaning about 3000 from a 30 Nosler. I have a buddy getting 3100+ with the 215 in a 30 Nosler.
So 2850-2900 with the 245 in a 30 Nosler should be attainable.

I've seen a 300NMI with 570 get 3200 with a 215 and shoot pretty good.
My theory is if I can't get a 245 or 230 to gain me anything like shoot flatter in the rifle I have then I'm sticking with the 215. The 245 isn't gonna kill anything any better than a 215 in my opinion.
If I want something bigger I would build a 338 of some kind, I also believe dia of a bullet helps in stopping power just by what I've witnessed in my 338WM

I know this is old, but I'm shooting a 20" carbon proof on a m70, 300 wsm, 205 berger @ 2800fps. Shoots .3-.4 moa consistently. 60g of h4350 and the berger just barely into the lands (.005) I'd say go for it. I love this rig.
