Long time lurker from PA

Hi,
Been here a long time, but have not posted anything. I recently took a long range shooting class, and am starting to get more interested in long range hunting. I've got an elk hunt coming next year and am hoping to have my shooting skills in order and solid dope for my rifle. I'm currently hunting a 7RM, but started looking at other 7's recently due to my twist not being able to stabilize anything over the 168 grain bullets. Trying to figure out why all of the production 7's keep being built with 1:10 and 1:9 twists.

Been on the fence about trying to find a 7 that'll shoot the Berger 195's. Been looking at nosler 28's. But so many of the factory rifles have 1:9 and 1:10 twists. Can't understand why they don't build these bigger 7's to shoot heavier bullets.

Brownings are fast twist in many models. 1-9 will handle most 175's. I will go out on a limb and say if a 168 or 175 in a 7 won't do it, you need a bigger gun. Biggest advantage of the heavier 180 and 195's is a little less wind deflection at very long range. There are some very slick and good performing bullets in 162-175 gr weights.

I really like 7's. Been looking at STW's, 7 wby, 28 nosler, and 7-300WM. I see the brownings have good twist, but they have some odd metric tread on the barrels. I'm shooting a thunder beast and need to use one of their muzzle breaks. Hate to have to cut a new barrel to rethread .

I could only get my earlier R700 in 7rm to shoot the Berger 168 VLD to my satisfaction with a 9.25 twist.
The 8.5 twist in my custom 7rm shoots from 140 gr on up to 180 gr to my surprise, very well for hunting.
