7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

So good to hear someone using it similar to what I have!!! Sako RL-22 - 86.0 ,, 120 grain Barnes,, Animals 400 yards have never head the Muzzle Blast !!
I have a Sako 75 V 7mm STW. Toped with a Swarovski 3-10. Ive been reading these were a 1 year production. Can anybody fill me in with a little info on year they were built and how many were built? Thanks.
I had a Sako 75, in 7STW. dont know exactly when or how many were built. One thing I found out, was that the twist was 1-10. Wasn't really a big deal though. You can seat those bullets out pretty far, but be careful of too long. You wont be able to remove a live round. Mine would shoot, trigger was good, barrel cleaned easy. Mine was Stainless. Mine liked H1000, and RL25. I believe its favorite bullet was 150 AB. Federal 215 MGM primers, winchester brass. Action was like glass. Enjoy your toy.

You might also try Retumbo (if you can get it) I've had better luck with Retumbo than RL25 or H1000 another one I'm looking at is the 8133 Enduron comparable to Retumbo and not temp sensitive. Just a thought I do run heavier pills and a little faster twist (168gr ABLR and 195 gr Berger EOL)

I found some RL26 to try out and am happy with the results. I have a stock SF1 Sendero. Using the Berger 168 Classic hunters and 77.0 gr of RL26 I was getting bugholes at 3275 fps. This might not compare to some of the custom builds, but I was only getting about the same velocity with 140 bts using RL25.
Might try Retumbo or 8133 Enduron I've had great velocity and accuracy with Retumbo

My STW is a 75 ,ss/synthetic also 26 bbl ,she dots on h1000 & 160 N accubonds 3150 fps 3 shots in half your pinky finger nail , wondering about that 1/10 mentioned , so I checked my box nothing , owners manual yes 1/9.5 twist for all their 7 mm factory barrels , thks love mine wish I had more !, cheers

9.5" and 10" twist will act essentially the same. I had a 10" twist barrel on my 7stw for a spell; it didn't like heavies much at all. My Pop's remmy at 9.25" was marginally better but still didn't like pointy pills heavier than 150'ish. My 8" twist is finicky but seems to like even the 183 Sierra.

Talking about twists they should have been 1/9 yes 1/8 is better ,got a Lilja 1/9 twist on my 708 rem love it never tryed 180 in her thou, bac 2 the STW show cheers all!

Jjmp, how are you my friend. The Sako 75 I had, i was told by the dealer that i got it from, said that the person he bought it from was a Sako collector. I guess he had a plenty of them. Mine was unfired, but not in a box, but i was told it was 1-10. I didnt actually measure it, just ran with what i was told. In my situation, with that rifle, it didnt matter. The biggest bullet i used was a 162 Amax. Boy, that load would shoot in that rifle. And you could seat them really long too. My best 7stw, one of the many that i owned, was a put together rifle i built, from a seven mag 700 action, a rechambered ss fluted 7mag barrel, with minimal firings on it, 26 inches. That was my all time best. I put a Bobby Hart stock on it, and new bottom metal, and would shoot lites out. I would put thst things accuracy up against any custom made gun, and embarrass the custom gun owner! Special thanks to my "Brother Bean" for the stock! I dont know how many deer i killed with it, but i know i wouldnt want to clean that many now. None ever walked away from it. That rifle was , and still is a jewel.

Ps, guys, this sub thread is awesome. 355 pages, of stories, personalities, and friendships. Sometimes i take a walk down memory lane on this thread, and i remember all the names, and alot of stories, and experiences, target's, loads and guns, from here, and half way around the world as well. We've been doing or contributing, or sharing info on this one thread alone, for over 10 years now, and then it sub divided, into reloading, etc. Pretty Badass round, and dome pretty Badass people here too. What a ride! Long Live the 7stw! Wow.

I'm good my Friend , thanking you back , just sent a bunch of reloading data to a Friend out in Oregon , he bought a 7STW and never reloaded for one , Cheers to this forum ,best info on the 7STW bar none ,ausome info as always cheers !!!

After a long while of lurking in the shadows I wanted to introduce myself in this thread to specifically say thanks to the guys posting valuable info. Below are a couple pics of my m700 with a shilen match grade barrel in 1:8.5 twist in a pillar and bed factory bdl stock. I'm still waiting on the factory trigger guard on backorder from remington but that may never come so I recently threw a black one off an sps on there. I've only been reloading for a year and I still need to figure out a load but im sticking with partitions and accubonds and selling my bergers, eld-x and sierras. I started reloading when a 338 Jarrett passed through a LGS for pennies on the dollar (no need for that cannon on long island). I never thought I would like any of my m700's more than the 338J but the 7STW is stealing the show. I have some time to develop a load before me and dad go searching for Elk. Hopefully the barrel has enough life left.

Welcome to the brotherhood. I purchased the STW in 2014 after reading this whole thread. It's become my favorite, and I've got plenty of choices. Don't hesitate to ask for advice. Lots of great and very knowledgeable people on this site that are more than happy to help.
Just a little advice for you........get H1000 powder and you can use it with any bullet weight with good velocity and great accuracy.
