Help....my wife cant see consistently through th scope.

My wife love to hunt but she has been getting very frustrated because she can't see through a scope consistently. She missed the opportunity on a buck last year because she couldn't see through the scope. Its bad enough that she's not eaven excited about our elk hunt next week.

Is there a somewhere she can take some shooting classes and get professionally fitted so she can enjoy going again.

I have tried to help but I dont know how and it normally ends in a fight, from what I can see she is shouldering the gun to low and can't get a check weld but she says its comfortable there. I'm going to make a foam riser for the stock at work today.

If she wears contacts she will need to remove them. My Girlfriend had the same problem and it took me a while to figure it out because I don't wear contacts.

Why did she have to remove them?

I wear contacs and don't have to remove them for scope use. Though, as my eyes have changed as I've gotten older, I've sure had to make adjustments to the ocular piece for proper focus on the diopter setting.

You may ask her to take the bolt out of her 308 and just start mounting it by her self with out you around and find the scope sight picture setting at first but not on the table . Then standing do the same thing . Take her to your local gun shop that has some one that knows how to fit her scope to her eye relief and get that done there for her . By the way a 308 is a good caliber for elk with 150 or higher weight bullets . She can fix her problem with the scope sight picture with some self study and practice . There are a few good videos and books out there she can read or watch and learn from till you can let her find a good instructor . Have her look on Midway USA , Brownells ect even Amazon to see if there are any that she may be interested in reading or watching . If she needs a longer LOP they have spacers that you put on the butt stock also for that . you can put an adjustable butt on the rifle to let her mount the rifle with it lower on her shoulder but still have the cheek piece higher for her to get good cheek weld . There are some good women shooters out there that will be more then glad to help her figure this out on some of the shooting forms . Shooting USA tv show has some good shooting people on it that she can get in touch with maybe she could contact someone like the Mitchulacks for some advice .

Progressive lenses in my glasses can also create problems. I don't wear contacts so I can't really comment there.

I fit a lot of guns to women and I can tell you get her behind a Weatherby Camilla and let her play with that and see if she comes to a natural point of aim then go from there, if you have to "train" to get good sight picture your stock is wrong, the right stock and fit will put you in the right position every time. A woman should not have a stock that a dude would be comfortable behind, you shouldn't even be able to use the rifle hardly after it's fitting her!!!

I have to wear contacts and shoot left handed because the left eye is my "good" eye. I wear my contacts from getting up to going to bed, hunting, driving, walking, riding... whatever

The Boyd's At One stock is great for women as you can adjust the cheek weld and LOP.

No she doesn't.

She may try looking on youtube about the use of the Brock string or Chris Sajnog's youtube site for his focus string , it's a Brock string . It will help with getting both eyes to focus and work together . They are easy to make and use .

It was much easier for me to acquire targets with both eyes open once I decided to try it.

These guys have nailed it. My wife has the same problem. My scope is set up for me so she has to really push her eye closer to see. Just get her her own rifle and set it up specifically for her!

I am so sorry for the both of you. Just went through this frustration with my husband...sighting in my gun for him for his upcoming deer hunt (stock Howa 1500/Zeiss Conquest 4-14x50). Had to adjust scope way different for him as in four or five clicks at 200 yds (he is not a hunter except once every 10 years or so). Fortunately he doesn't ask to shoot my Grendel with a Magpul PRS because I have it set perfectly for me with LOP and cheek riser adjustment. Women are made so different-the cheek riser is highly advised-our necks are longer. I hear good things about the women's Weatherby. My sis had difficulty fitting her Tikka T3 and she ended up with a Bradley cheek riser and loves it. I know your wife and you are trying hard-a gunsmith might be able to give you fresh insight from a neutral corner! Understand it might be the anatomical difference and not that she isn't trying. I was frustrated with my sis because it is so easy to think that if the person would just listen and do what you say it would work fine. Gunsmith fixed the problem with the riser and different rings on her scope. Should have seen the gunsmith first!
