Another thread going now inspired me to ask What did you screw up (gun related preferably) today/this week?
It's easy for somebody brand new to get on here and think the folks on here with all the awesome advice have it all figured out and don't screw things up. I don't know about the rest of you guys but I do something really stupid pretty frequently...we just don't always broadcast our failures.

So here's mine. I turn necks on my lathe, and call me lazy, but its quicker to just turn down a new mandrel every time in the 3 jaw, vs swapping over to the 4 jaw and dialing it in. So today I snuck home early and chucked up the stock, turned it down nailed my dimension perfectly. But when I chamfered the end I somehow raised a burr that I didn't notice. I checked it with a piece of brass that seemed to go on with just the right tension so I got busy turning necks. Got 5 done before I bothered inspecting and realized that burr had scraped metal off the inside of the neck...ugh. thankfully I only lost 5 cases to this stupidity.

This week. I was seating primers. Had 20 done when wife called me in for dinner. Came back out and started powder charging. All 50 charged started seating bullets. Luckily after 2 I notice a little powder. NO primers in 30 of them 😡
Wish I couldn't say that I have let myself do that more than once.

Not gun but hunting related. Bought an Excalibur crossbow for this season from a friend. Was excited to get the scope sighted in for this weeks hunt. On about the 6th shot the handle came off the crank that pulls the string back. The screw had worked itself out and I never noticed any wiggle or anything else indicating this. Well, the crank turned into a meat grinder and I won't be hunting for a unspecified amount of time. Can't even bend my trigger finger let along clean a deer.

Glad I am not the only one

I'm sure that created yellow stains in your underwear after they dried out ouch. David

How much time you got? Hell I started reloading on my own and never had a mentor. Let that sink in for a min. I've screwed up plenty of stuff and sometimes still do when I'm not paying complete attention.

I'm right there with you. I can even imagine how many bullets I've pulled or how much brass I've had to throw away over the years

Wasn't today, but recently.
Went off of memory instead of notes and primed 30 6.5 saum cases with 210's instead of 215's, I keep good notes, but they don't do me any good when I don't read them......stupid.....just plain stupid, and I lecture my kids about knowing better. The hypocrisy is embarrassing.
