tough decision on your part, because some one else may kill a deer prematurely is that a good enough reason for you too. I used to think so but dont think that way any longer just do what is right for you

I feel your pain. All my land is low fenced. My son got mad at me last year because I wouldn't let him shoot a 160 class 11 point. The deer was probably 2 1/2 years old. I know he survived the season, but I haven't seen him in a while. I don't know if he survived the poachers. Here's a pic of him from last season.

No fencing just ag land all around me so the neighbors on all sides hunt and will not pass this guy up for sure. But he has survived a couple seasons so he has a hidey hole somewhere that has kept him still kicking. I would love to see him next year so I think I am going to pass for now. I do have another spot where I killed a 156 7/8 last year and there is one bigger yet there. I hung a stand in the rain a week ago in a spot that I know he moves through so maybe I will get lucky this year on him. I am betting he is over 180 so I hope I don't shake an arrow off the rest!

What do you want...meat or antlers...or both...
I opt for both...that bucks okay..but if he survives he survives....we are conservationist....to a point....
I was told by a rancher in central Oregon
"don't kill my babies"....i never did..even passed up a couple really nice mulies.....but did take a forkedhorn....24" wide..bases big around as my wrist...no teeth.....tasted just fine too....
Later after the rancher passed away..the grandson and other druggies killed everything with antlers...no more deer there...even the does migrated away...or were killed too....been 18 years since last I was there....good memories..good decisions....its what we do as conservationist....maybe some youngster will get that buck as her/his first.....

Or, your neighbors also gave him one more year. I'd take him home, or they will. Hope your lady is doing well.

Stay safe.
LVJ: Thank you for kind thoughts! Doing well!

Pic just came in off camera and we ran to sunroom and watched him tear up field saplings for about 20 minutes! It was actually a privilege to just watch him in all his grandeur. This was at 5:40PM moments ago!
