E-bike

I've been looking at the E-bikes for quite some time now as a means to keep me hunting into the 70's (age that is) but what is hard to find is their weight capacity and effect on power consumption. Since I am a svelte 6'4" 255 lbs or basically Shrek size, the bike's capacity is big deal and major decision maker. The other problem for us normal size Shrek's is frame size but this one looks pretty good from that perspective. Anybody in same boat and have some info?
Being a Michigander yourself, the Host of Hardcore pursuits, Mike Pelletier (Yooper)advertises and uses one on his show. He stands at least 6'3-6'4. Not sure his weight but he fits the bike well. The tires would easily carry your 255 lbs. I'm guessing so will the suspension of the bike. I'm also sure the company offers a bike for anybody. They aren't a cheap toy and I think they have that weight capacity issue covered. Just my opinion.

It's simple physics. Shreks require bigger horses/wagons/cars/bikes, or get less comfort, range, and performance for the same size bikes. And have trouble finding cheap and comfortable shoes, but I digress...

With the goal of hunting as long as your body allows, an E-bike is a GREAT way to start, but they are vehicles that require some learning and practice, and can be very dangerous (approaching horses, ORVs, and MX), if caught in a "situation" at speed. I assure you, at some point you will end up going faster than prudent on an e-bike, whether your 17 or 71. They are a blast. 😃

If you are serious about an e-bike purchase, make sure your "Shrekness" can still pedal a normal bike around a parking lot, with safe braking, steering, and balance. If you can do that, then with some practice, you can do so much more with an e-bike.

If you check the above box, contact the manufacturer regarding sizing.

As for battery life, the weight will matter, but not as much as you think. It's not linear. A 100 lb rider won't go twice as far as a 200 lb rider. Also, because of the "Shrek" sized feet and thighs, you'll deliver more power to the bike, partially offsetting GVW losses.

I have checked out quiet cat, Rambo and a couple others want one very badly just can't do it right now

As for the price, if you're willing to wait, and buy directly from China (as apposed to Chinese parts assembled here), there are some really amazing machines to be had at half the price of the ones you can buy on Cabelas/Midway. That said, those parts assembly companies appear to provide outstanding service and support, which can be worth a lot.

I ride an old Trek (notice how rhymes with Shrek!) ATB 10-15 miles no trouble but as other issues like back flares, the E-Bike is looking pretty good. As for Shrek size, rarely buy off rack, 15 5 E boots are impossible to find, orangutan arms so finding 3XLT shirts is fun, now I digress:eek:. I can see this for hunting ND early bow when heat is stupid, hydration problem not too mention SNAKES! Keep info coming! Taking notes for xmas!
VLD: seeing on cable TV big reason been looking! The battery capacity or drain is something I need to get more knowledgeable relative to Shrek use. I need to start making calls to manufacturers to get "real" data. The old adage " speak with data" is still ingrained from past career. Old habits just won't quit!

For what it is worth ...

My wife and I each got one this summer from FattE Bikes in Denver. They're in the $2200 range and weigh 50-65 lbs. We took them this weekend to Hoosier Pass on some two-tracks. It's just not very maneuverable with the weight. You need a little more room to recover. They're great on wider established trails and are a lot of fun.

I just recently picked up a NCM Aspen fat tire e-bike. Great bike so far. Playing around with it on paved roads, it was simple to get up to 20+ mph. For those of you that added after-market fenders, do you have any good ones to recommend for 4" tires?

I believe EBikes are permitted anywhere a regular bike is permitted on Federal lands, since about Aug 30th last year?
I have a Biketrix Juggernaut, I definitely need to start wearing a helmet on it, 30 mile an hr with a bow and pack, will probably leave a mark or 2.
I was looking at those hard till I found out we can't ride them any different places than a motor cycle or 4 wheeler, that was a buzz kill!!

Cant use them here in Montana, they are considered motorized vehicles.Where I hunt they don't gain me anything. I have to use a regular bike or flintstone it.

I saw on youtube a cop in oregon pulled over a guy on an electric pedal scooter..dmv in Oregon recognises it as a bicycle...not a motorized..
So I'd check with your states DMV laws regarding bicycles..electrics..VS..motorized......it might require you pack a signed letter from DMV on the bike to show anyone with authority to pull you over...

Huh, i actually had a conversation with the F&W and BLM manager in Glasgow MT, about them as a Senator had put forth a bill for ebikes to be used in most places. They had no knowledge of this, but said they would look into it, and that a staff meeting was happening mid week. Unfortunately i only received the phone call at the end of my antelope hunt, that I could use my EBike.
So we were good on BLM land at that time, that was October 23rd last year.
Did the Bill get overturned?

If the land is open to motorized travel, yes. If it is closed, the e-bikes are considered motorized, so, beyond a closed gate or on a seasonally closed road, no go.

From the BLM site listed above by CONChunt:

Non-motorized trails
Contact your local BLM office for more information.

E-bikes are allowed on trails limited to bicycles and non-motorized travel ONLY IF a BLM Manager has issued a written decision authorizing e-bike use in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Unfortunately they are classified as a motor vehicle, I had to get clarification from our local Forest Service LEO and he checked up the chain for me and it's no different than a motorized side by side.
