6.5 SHERMAN MAX

Max approx 5 grains higher.
**this is a new cartridge so this is a best guess based on my 6.5 Sherman
Loaded
61.5-66 8133
64.5-69 RL33

Only a # of Retumbo on the shelf, better save that. There is room for more 8133 and RL33 in the case, but they're fairly full.
Will see what happens tomorrow. My 26" bartlein has 105 rounds on it so far. So who knows when it'll start to pressure up. My 6.5 prc bartlein carbon did around 150 or so.

If I had to guess, I'd say 69 RL33 wont pressure it to max. Im thinking 70-71, but we'll see?

I have N570 too but man it gets exponentially harder on bores smaller you go. My 338 rum has moved 6 thou in 200 rounds, my 300 norma improved has moved 27k in 530 rounds w/ N570. I can't imagine how hard it is on 7mm and 6.5mm.

I think youll find RL33 to be pretty hard on it too!

View attachment 162771Here is a pic pf the new 6.5 Sherman Max (R) loaded with a 156 Berger at 3.070" to the lands. 6.5 SST (L)
I am expecting to be able to push the 156 at 3250' out of a 26" barrel with N570.
It will be best built on a medium action like a Defiance xm or on a Seekins, etc., but also works well on a Long action.
Don't get stuck on it not working on a short actions though! With bullets like a 140 AB, etc, it would run in the low to mid 2.9 coal range at a velocity between 3350-3400'.
Rich, you're going to force me to build a Rifle with a Lone Peak Medium Ti Fuzion yet!! What about a .338 MAX? Now that would be slick on a medium Fuzion Ti.

What is a good fire forming load with n570 and 147s? I ran 59-61grs last night on my 20in. 61gr showed 2669 fps with no pressure. Never used N570. Using 6.5 adg brass and cci250 primers.

Sure would. The 250 Berger will run up to 300

Personally. I would use a faster powder for forming, but if you use 570, I would jump it up to about 65 grains. Even though N570 should be a great powder in the max with longer barrels, it may NOT be for a 20"?

Results from today. Bartlein 26" 8tw carbon. 156eol, found pressure with 8133, not with RL33. Was definitely hoping for more speed.

Finished testing with RL33 to pressure. Had faint ejector but no lift 71-71.5, had moderate ejector(enough to catch my knife edge) and light lift with 72gr. Heres those last 4 shots at 220y. 70.5-71.5 are 1/3". 72 opened the group to 1"
Going to work through 69.2-70.2 and find how good that node is, and finally test seating depths.

Data I've collected w/ 156 bergers and a verity of powders, CCI250, adg brass. 26" bartlein 8tw, Tikka action.
Brass required turning for proper clearance. Process is: cleaned, annealed, sized w/ 287 bushing, expanded with 262 mandrel tumbled. Gives 2.5k nk tension.
I don't run the psi a lot of guys do with the Sherman cases. I get ejector I can catch with the edge my knife, I typically shut it down, whether bolt lift is there or not. Some times lift/prominent ejector show up at same time.
My buddy and I built rifles at the same time, 90% same components. Barrels are both equally slow compared to said/advertised velocities.
