7mm Weatherby Mag

Hi, does anybody know if a 7mm weatherby mag reamer will "clean up"" a 7mm Rrem Mag chamber without the need to screw the barrel in deeper? Just thinking this might be a good way to get a bit more horsepower from a 7mm Rem mag., 3 or 4 few grains more powder and the joy of using that marvelous Norma brass.

Are you wanting to turn your 7 Rem Mag into a 7 Weatherby mag? Having owned both and still having the Weatherby Mag I will say stick with the 7 Rem mag, the extra few grains of powder and extra bump in speed isn't worth the hassle of the finickiy to load for Weatherby mag with a freebore of near .375".

Yes, it will totally clean up the chamber.
I think you will like it. I have a 270 Bee, and it is DEVASTATING on everything it touches.

But there is lots of good 7mm RM brass out there too. So brass is not going to make a difference. And I suspect the Weatherby brass is 2-3x more expensive than the RM. I'm shooting Norma in my 7 RM.

As for the free bore that Birdhunter mentions, well that up to the smith that you use to make your changes. Honestly, though, if you have a 7 Rm that shoots well (ie, its a good barrel, throated right etc,) then you are a FOOL to mess with it.

And if the 7 RM you have does NOT shoot well, then throwing the 100's of dollars into it, to find out if the WBY shoots a little faster is also kinda dumb...... Might shoot better. Might still not shoot well.

So you want a bigger 7mm that has good brass? Find one w/o the belt issues (thought they are over emphasized) that has good brass and have the smith do it right with a premium barrel.

Stick with the 7mm Rem Mag or open the chamber up to something that's a real step up like a 28 Nosler or 7x300 PRC. There's Norma 7mm Rem Mag Brass that's great and there's ADG and Gunwerks. Those are three great brass options not just one. The 7mm Weatherby is a good round, but I wouldn't change a Rem Mag to one. Just my opinion.

I don't know if an 7mm stw will clean up a Rem mag chamber or not but it's hasn't been finicky for me. .219 freebore in the stw is Handy for 160-180s

I have just re-chambered my Sendero barrel from 7RM to 7STW. No set-back required.
I thought about 28 Nosler, but with the 9.25" twist, I just went with the STW chamber, 168gr ABLR's and 160gr AB's to hunt with.
Broke the barrel in with 150gr BT's got 2" groups at 300mtr with a middle load just trying seating depth. Quite impressed.
I also got 100 pieces of Remington brass @ $1.65 AUD each.

At this moment I have not found any 7mm RM brass for sale ('out of stock' seems to be the current manufacturer LOL) except for Prvi Partizan and I have no idea how good that brass is.

It's junk. We tried it. It's not consistent at all. Probably would work for 100 yard deer hunting but not for long range or precision shooting. Here's some Norma 7mm Rem Mag Brass that's in stock.

That's what it costs now. It's not horrible considering it's Norma brass and it's good stuff. It will last 10+ firings with a good load so you won't have to buy more for awhile. The equivalent brass for a 7mm Weatherby is $1.80-2.00 piece after shipping and taxes.

At that point you'd be better off punching it out to a practical much better performance than a wby

could get an extended mag box add some freebore to your current 7RM, run your loads at the top node and get additional performance.

Your barrel twist will determine what bullet you can shoot.

if you decide to rechamber decide what level of performance you want.

a STW is essentially a 28N in case capacity (slightly more) and not any room to seat high BC bullets at a optimum depth unless you go single shot.

I set up a 7mm Weatherby to shoot 180 VLD's, the case has a long neck that I like and the reamer puts the bullets boat tail/ bearing surface junction right at the bottom of the neck.

24" barrel 9 twist, at the mid node Is 2950 FPS. If your barrel is 24"'s I don't think its worth going to the larger 28N, or 7 Practical route unless you have the twist for 195's

The 7mm Wby is actually a noticeable upgrade in performance and great if you load it out beyond mag length for longer bullets. you can also ream it with less free-bore if that is your desire. IMHO it is a worthwhile option.
