Scope opinions!

Ok first if all this is not for me, but know my next scope, NF NX8 4-32x50 f2....which I also recommend to my buddy that just purchased a CHRISTENSEN ARMS, MESA LONG RANGE, BOLT ACTION, SPIRAL FLUTED BOLT, 6.5 PRC, 26" BARREL, 4+1 ROUND, CARBON FIBER COMPOSITE STOCK

He will not be hunting and may never hunt with this rifle, he will plink with factory ammo, I do not think he's shot anything further then like 200 yards so he will be learning as he goes and I will be helping him as much as I can.

He's willing to pay 2k for the glass but with the lack of my knowledge on NF's I was just wondering if say a NSX would do what he wants, again he will not be hunting so low light situations will probably not be that big of a deal but Scope travel and repeatability will be big for him.
Not stuck on a single brand of scope btw!

I think they even have a SFP version of the NX8 for this year. Seems folks were asking for one.

I'd always be hesitant to recommend buying expensive glass for a newb who from what it sounds like is doesn't sound emotionally invested in this. Nightforce makes great stuff, I don't think that's the issue to be considered first and foremost.

But I recommend what the guy up there suggested^ With the 2.5x20. There's no reason to have 36 power if you're not a bench shooter, and there's no reason to bench shoot groups at distance if you're using factory ammo.

Some really nice scopes are available to be had via the Classifieds here (ie NF, Leupold, Burris, etc...).

Yes I am looking at the classifieds for him, he shoots and at one time was in police force and went threw the police academy but you will starve working for the police in his area. This is his first forte into long range, up to this he's been ARs and Pistols.

I was always a big Leupold guy and the VX5HD is one I suggested due to cost but I laid out all the pros and cons that I have learned from here and my own research and he wanted the NF, but he's not 100% sold on it and I am trying to do best I can to guide him. It's also why I was asking about some of the "cheaper NFs" because I don't know if he needs a 2k scope, I was thinking more along $750-$1100 range.

And yes I will be getting a SFP in the NX8 I get I looked threw the FFP scope of the same magnification and hated it at the lower LVs and I will be hunting with my rifle So I need something I can use at the lower lv as much as the upper lvs

Maybe you guys should tailor the scope to the max distance that will be shot. How far does he expect shoot. Nice thing about a 32x scope is you can see bullet holes on paper at 300 yards pretty easily and can see the X on a F-class target at 600.

Setting aside it's a lot to spend not knowing how much use he will actually get out of it, the scope that has my interest is the new Nightforce 2.5-20 SFP. Price point is above the $2000 mark.

Want to save some money look at Bushnell forge shot mine at a thousand last weekend it preformed great when I moved it it moved the amount it should also shot a huskemaw the same day and could see better with my 18 power than could with the 20 power huskemaw they have recently had great buys on the Bushnell. Look at the shv line, should be closer to $1k, also if he's a first responder or a vet, many companies offer some pretty awesome discounts, usually around 30-40%. Good luck

Might take a look at the meopta optika 6 line of scopes I bought one the glass is plenty good and the tracking has been spot on so far and he might save some dollars

Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60x 52. Made in Japan. Great glass and an excellent reticle for long range. Great target scope. I love mine on my 6.5x.284. It's in your price range.

Total waste for him and his situation. Use half that money on a scope and the other half on ammo so he can play.
