Decided to tempt fate with a new load in my Mark V...
My previous go to was 73gr of RL19 behind a 93gr Hammer Hunter for a COAL of 3.205" cooking along at 3793fps, which stacked 3 rounds under half an inch at 100 yards consistently from prone over my pack.
I got to thinking how easy those Hammers were to load and that maybe I could get away with loading them further out to increase powder space.
I'll need to do a little more testing cuz I ran of powder after loading up 5 rounds, but I made it out to fire 3 of them tonight and couldn't be happier!
COAL: 3.34"
Velocity: 3995fps avg with 2fps spread
Group: .603" edge to esge
Gonna buy another pound of this stuff and see if it's as good as it feels. 22-250 speeds with a deer and black bear loading is nuts!

I am going to try the Berger 115VLD's and N570. With the 110 ELDX and N570 I got 3574fps. Hoping the VLD's will get close to the same speed. Should be flat shooting and lethal.

Yea, RL19 and Hammer Hunters with this stock Mark V seem to be the ticket! I'm blown away by the accuracy and speed I've found and how easy it's been to do.

How finicky are the ELDs for loading? My 10" twist barrel works pretty well with the 93gr Hammers, but I wouldn't mind a heavier option.

Try the 80 Barnes, you can edge 4000.

He'll edge 4000 with 93 hammer and its a better and much more forgiving bullet throughout a wider velocity range

I like the Hammers much better than the Barnes if a mono is desired and 3995fps is pretty darn close to 4,000fps and I'm pushing a 13gr heavier bullet

Haha I never thought I'd be pushing this sort of speed with a hunting bullet. It's a pleasant surprise

With more BC, well I just looked that up, very little difference there.

I am new to berger bullets so I don't no how easy they will be to get to shoot. The 210 VLD shot great out of my 300Wby .120 off the lands. I am hoping for same kind of results with the 115 VLD in my 257Wby.

Wilkup likes to hunt long range so this it literally about the worst advice ever!
