300 prc vs 30 nosler

adg makes brass for both, so that's a wash.
I'd take a 30 or 30-28 nosler with the proper freebore. the prc is already maxed out from the factory.
both are solid options and neither has any game changing velocity advantage.

I recently had a 300 win mag put together with a 28" barrel and during my research between the nosler and the win mag I found that they are nearly the same. I get 2900 FPS comfortably with a 225 eldm with my win mag. I don't know about the prc. If you want as you said a big 30. I would say a 30 Sherman mag is the next step. I don't think a regular 300 prc or 30 nosler have much advantage over a properly throated win mag. But maybe the same could be said for a properly throated 30 nosler. Win mag brass is cheaper and easier to find also imo. Just my 2 cents.
thanks good advice, i have several 300 wins and i love that caliber, just looking for a bit more extended range punch. thanks again

Gentlemen im going to have one of my remington 700 actions currently chanbere in .300 win mag rebarreled into a big 30. Trying to decide between the 300 PRC and the 30 Nosler. Im leaning toward the PRC, please give me you opinions on this matter particularly from any of you gentlemen that have had experience with one or both of the cartridges. Thanks
30 prc my choice

300 Rum , 28" Carbon barrel 1/9 twist throated for the 245 Bergers and a T-3 Termanator brake . Timney trigger , set in a McMillan Hunter Edge fill stock . It will be one of my next Rifles built. It's perfect for Elk out to 1000 plus !
Good luck on your choice !!

Negligible performance between the two. Why not stick with a proven mainstream cartridge rather than the newest bandwagon round. Hornady will come out with another "cooler" cartridge in another couple years that does the same thing as the old reliable ones do.

Ya, I'm biased but the 30 SM seems to be outrunning the Nosler from the early reports and you can shoot Factory PRC ammo VERY accurately if you want to.
Seems like a win, win to me!
Mine runs the 245 very close to 3000' at high node with pin point accuracy and my brass is living there too. Here was a cold bore shot at 880 yesterday to check everything out.View attachment 207504
Enlighten me on a 30 Sherman. Who makes brass and I see different configurations of a 300 Sherman. Which is what? I am interested especially if you are running a 245 grain as fast as you are saying. Is it a barrel burner? I'm just looking at a long range hunting rifle that won't be shot much but want something that is accurate and delivers energy. But I also like to look at if there is good brass available.

I was kicking around the same idea about a year ago, went PRC because 1. The barrel life will facilitate an heirloom weapon 2. Factory ammunition for the Nosler is and has been on-par with some of the unicorn powders 3. More barrel makers are getting board with the PRC and walking on Nosler. Hornady makes decent brass, necking .375 is a pain for now.
Initial loads with 225gr ELD-M making 2900fps, still in the works with the addition of my TBA Ultra-9 stamp that finally came through.

ADG makes my brass and it is a modified 300 PRC parent. 300 Sherman is a .470" case head and 300 SS and Max are SAUM based.
Barrel life should be somewhat better than the Nosler with the 40 degree shoulder and longer neck. I put 1600 rounds through my first barrel and it was still shooting very well. I took it off because I tweaked the chamber just a touch so I could shoot 300 PRC ammo.
It was nitrided, so I dont know the degree to which that affected it?
They are very accurate even shooting Hornady shelf ammo although velocity goes down to WM levels because of lower pressure.

If your possibly thinking a Big Boy then the 338 class is Amazing ! I have the 338 Rums and the 338 Edge's . Several of each .
Here is my Montana Bull Elk from last year taken at 1244 yrds with my 338 Edge and 300 gr bergers ! My personal best to date !

I rebarreled my semi-custom 300RUM to 30 Nosler. I was able to grab 7 boxes of factory Nosler ammo on sale for less than the brass cost. Pulling the 180 Accubond bullets out a bit so that they were closer to rifling produced sub moa groups without much difficulty. I could have used that ammo to hunt with but was looking for a load using the 181 Hammer bullet.
Using the Hammer bullet I was able to get sub .5moa groups at 400yds. Dropped a bull elk quickly at 315yds.
