I am interested in trying some RE 16 in a .308 Win with 150gr bullets. There doesn't seem to be much info on the web or Alliant's site.
Does anyone have any experience with this combo that you'd like to share?

I tend to think RL16 powder is too slow for that combo. Might be ok with 180 gr bullets. Needs a magnum primer for sure, IME.

I'm doing load development for my nephew's .308 with Ramshot Tac and 150 Accubond.

Varget is still better for me for accuracy
Careful with TAC, it can be "spikey"
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I understood that Western had reformulated Tac to alleviate the temp issues. I chose it for this and because he wants to shoot 150 gr Accubonds.

My nephew will be shooting between Sep and April in OK & KS. Hopefully he wont have any significant temp related issues.

I guess we'll know soon whether or not I'll need to get more than 1 lb.

24.4" 30-06 burns rl16 just fine with a 190 berger and a standard fed primer.

Use data for RL17 with your 308 with 150s and subtract 10% of their listed charge of 50 grains. I could tell you where I wound up, but I don't like publishing my load data. Your gun could build pressure faster or slower than mine. But I can tell you this, my 22" with 150 Sierra is smoking fast with Rl16.

RL16 is very stable, but all temp insensitive powder has stable ranges. Develop the load in hot weather if you can.

It can easily be in the upper 90s with a few 100° days in September in SW OK where I am. I have bow hunted in October in shorts and a T-shirt Sweating my butt off.

Are you using standard primer in the 308 with 150 Sierra and RL16? Getting a clean burn in the 22" barrel?

Why RL-16 when Vargret works so well. I use RL-16 in my 6.5 Creedmoor loads with great results, but my 308s get Varget..
