So Will the .270 Win Overtake the CM's and PRC's?

Not to fan the flames here, just an honest question.... Maybe look at it from another angle, what is going to slow the CM down. Sure there are bound to be new fad cartridges that pop up and people rush out to buy, but there really isn't anything wrong with the CM. If you are realistic about it's limitations and don't believe it will give magical magnum performance out of a moderate sized case; then it is just a handy little round that is now usable from .223 to .264. I just do not see any reason for it to drop off significantly. Momentum is a real thing and, for better or worse, all the bullets, ammo, rifles... give the CMs just that.

The CMs and PRCs will hold ground for if nothing else, the non-reloaders. I'm not a fan as I reload and have .260s and .243s. Both I prefer over the CMs personally. That said, if I didn't have either of those cartridges, I'd probably opt for the other two CM cartridges. Pretty close performance and loaded ammo availability if I decided not to load for either.

If I'm rebarreling a LA .270, I'm not building another .270, I'm going .280 AI. And that's what's being discussed here, because you're not stuffing a 1977 BDL with a 170gr and doing work. You're going to have to rebarrel it. At that point why limit yourself?

So, I ignored the bait, as the OP limits the context of "overtake" to long range performance of these newer rounds compared to the 270win, until now, when I realized that as long as the 270 has taken wayyyyyyy more critters than any of the PRCs or creeds, it is the new children that need to do some overtaking. It's me, not you. 🤓

I'm a life time .270 Win Fan. Two Hunting Rifles in 270 Win , and a270 Weatherby Mag. last year I had a 29 inch Heavy Hart Barrel, with an 8 twist, Chambered in 270 Win. on a 98 action. Custom Chamber allows me to seat 150 Grn Nosler LR bullets in the neck and not take up any spacer in the shoulder area. Single shot of course . It shot extremely well on my 300 yard test. In the fall I will test it with the 170 Grn Berger Bullets . H4831SC and Win LR primers, for first test .

That would be measuring with a rubber ruler when you consider the age difference.
I see how many different types of CM ammo is in local stores compared to just 5 years ago, with the current trend it might be quite interesting to revisit this same subject in 5 years.

I have a 270 & my Wife has a CM, I have no emotion in this and don't care but it appears some do.

I have a .270 win Rem 700 that I put in a Magpul 700 stock and set up for LongRange shooting...... yeah I am that stupid.

So the plan was to turn it into a 280 AI with a proper twist rate, but then I saw the 6.5 PRC. I spent much time looking and hoping for word of a 7 PRC, but at last I broke down today and ordered a 6.5 PRC Ruger American...... yeah I am that stupid.

Rifle Manufacturers are stupid. Glad Remington is going tits up and hope the rest of them follow suit. The companies need to be bought out by someone who is not afraid to change twist rates on new production rifles with legacy chamberings.

Would have been perfectly happy with a production rifle in 280, 280 AI, 7 RM, or a 270win with a proper twist rate for "Today's" bullets.

If the gun makers can't even be innovative enough to change the twist rates in their barrels, what does that tell you about the crap they are peddling for $700 - $1500? Did they all sign an agreement to never update twist-rates in established cartridges to drive new rifle sales with "here today, gone tomorrow" new cartridge offerings?

Yeah, hope they all go tits up and are bought by an Elon Musk type to produce new rifles.

Major, are you getting this one? https://www.ruger.com/products/americanRifleGoWild/specSheets/36925.html
I bought my wife a RAP as a second rifle (1st is a 6.5x55) and she wanted to shoot with me a little further out. I thought I could just sell it and not lose much, with the 140A-Max 1/2 MOA with H4350 was an easy task. 140 Gr. NP will group 3 into 3/4". All I did was adjust the trigger & the fore end was touching on one side, I took a rasp to that, a 10 minute job.
I am anxious to see what your results are.

Yeah, that is what I ordered. The bedding system and cold hammered barrel were the two main aspects that got me interested in the the Americans when they came out but this one has the threaded barrel and there are after market parts for them now. If it shoots I can make it into what I want for a few hundred more.

Unfortunately there is no ammo or brass for it in stock anywhere local so it will be sitting for awhile.

Amen to that! I just recently sent an email to Winchester asking them why in the world were they still making the 264WM with a 9" twist and 280 with a 10" twist......these people need to pay more attention to what's going on with today's bullet improvements, as well as what their customers want! They replied I could check back with them after Shot Show! Now what kind of a generic response is that?

If people quit buying these slower twist offerings they would adjust but the average rifle buyer is not shooting long range or reloading so it wont happen any time soon

But are people requesting slower twist offerings? Would people see a 270 win rifle with an 8.25 twist barrel and decided not to buy it because of the faster twist rate?

I think they could be innovative enough to automatically change the twist rate to match progress in their area of expertise within the firearm industry. Just shows a lack of giving a crap among manufacturers. Or most likely a consensus among them to not do so to promote new rifle cartridge development and rifle sales.
