I'm looking for powders to start load development on a short barreled .270 wsm with 140 berger classic hunters. (I don't know how short the barrel is gunna be yet, I plan to chronograph it at 26 inches and decide how much I am willing to lose from there). I can find some load data that should work for h1000 which will be a good starting place being as it shoots well from my 7 mag but H1000 is in short supply right now. I have lists of load data I just don't know adam from eve when it comes to powders. I am looking for temp stability first and velocity second. Im seeing re 26, aa magpro, ramshot, n560, 7828 ssc. Any ideas which powders I should be looking for?

I bought 2 pounds of re 23 just the other day for my brothers 300 win. He was saying people are finding the h1000 to be quite a bit less sensitive than the re 23 and he wants to hold out for h1000, maybe I'll just keep it and try it for myself.

H1000 is probably going to be your best option for temp stability. I've ran both RL 26& h1000. I favor RL 26 but I don't hunt in warm temps. If I did, I would favor retumbo or H1000 for that cartridge. H4350 would probably be a touch more stable that H1000 but it would be a bit slower in velocity.

If you are looking for temp stability RL 22 will not be it great powder though used it for years

RL22 is ok as long as you have data points at the temp you are shooting AND as long as it is not too warm out. I shoot RL22 in cold temps and accuracy, ES and SD is pretty good in a 300WM with 200AB.

Yeah I was thinking I had re 23 not 22. The 22 will go to some purpose other than the hunting rifle. make target practice rounds probly

For me I use RL26 with 140 accubonds @3200 fps

I am shooting a max load of RL26 with the 140 Berger Classic hunter. 26 inch barrel. Look up the load data in the Berger Reloading manual. Shoots awesome.
