7 wsm in S/A?

I would bet money 180's in a 9 would be fine even at sea level. I did load development for my nephews 7 mag with a 1-9 Broughton Rbros rifle and its shot great out to 1000.
I'm doing load development on his buds 7 mag as we speak only to 100 so far but I'm getting ready to take it to 500 this is what the last load it shot in upper left with 180 Bergers in a 9

Mines an rbros built gun as well. Got 135 rounds down it and have taken it to 650 under moa. At 200 I shot a 5 round group into about a nickel today with the load he provided

The 180 Berger's are good in 1:9. The eldm is longer and more bearing surface so per their website they recommend minimum twist 1:8

Regardless of twist, your getting a new barrel anyways, might as well get a faster twist if going to shoot the heavies so you don't have to question it. But as for running in a short action shouldn't be an issue. As long as your smith can make it work. I know Travis at rbros can definitely do it. Yes RL26 is not easy to find but I've had the gun for a few months now and I've been able to get 12lbs of it just by keeping my nose to the ground and checking everyday on all the sights. Got a few lbs online a couple months ago and got an 8lb jug coming in a few weeks from a member on here that lives near me. When it comes up. Buy it. Don't wait.

I wouldnt go any faster than 8.5 I know some guys running 8.5 with the 195 and they shoot just fine

In looking at the published numbers (I know Berger has issues with Hornadys numbers, but that's probably since it makes theirs look bad 😁). But this is what I currently have in 7mm-

the 162 eldm BC is 0.670
the 180 eldm BC is 0.777
The 190 A-tip BC is 0.838

the Berger 180 vld is 0.673
the Berger 180 hybrid is 0.680
The Berger 184 hybrid is 0.695
The Berger 190 LR hybrid is 0.751

so based on the "numbers" the best improvement for velocity trade off would be the 180 eldm.... going to the 180 vld wouldn't improve BC but would just slow down the bullet....

Unfortunately I live in AK so shipping powder is pretty cost prohibitive and timely 😕 so most places won't even do it unless they already have a store here. But all the local places have been out forever

that's rough on that end! Hopefully you'll see it one of these days. N565 should provide good velocity and h1000 not too far behind, might be worth looking at. Still all of the above are fairly scarce. I'm in Washington state and most stores only have pistol powder and some oddball stuff on the shelves

I'm shooting the 197 Sierra match king in a 1:7.5 twist bartlein 29" gun built on a Remington 700 long action Sierra recommendation was 7.5 or faster I have 8 # of reloader 26 got great velocity with my other 7wsm in a 1:8 twist but groups were horrible 3175 FPS to 3200 FPS if anyone has any load data for that powder send it my way that rifle is set up to shoot 183 SMK and 175 accubond long range

Here is my load for 197 SMK

I shoot the 180 Berger's with rl26 out of my 7 Saum on a Stiller predator short action and a COL right 2.926. I didn't think this was doable when I started the build but the builder guaranteed it would get over 2900. Chronod it today now that the barrel is broken in and shot 3007 FPS average with Es 12 and sd of 5. From my understanding a WSM SHOULD outpace the Saum?
I tilted my head to the left to read the digital display in your photo, at first, then realized something was amiss.

If you can seat out to 3.2 ish you stand to gain a little over the SAUM. If your under 3 you probably won't gain much. 7 SAUM is a better designed case , it stands to have better barrel life with the longer neck( all things being equal). To real get the advantage of the heavy bullets in a short mag they really need to be on a long action.

Look into Berger 175 elites. I actually have less of the bullet in the case with the 175 than I do with the 162 EDLX with the difference in ogive. 175 have less bearing surface and gives a touch more velocity. If your staying in short action I would look into those.
