For those of you who hunt suppressed, do you Leave the suppressor on while packing in to your hunting area?

My question is about hunting suppressed and getting into hunting areas. I Purchased my first suppressor a couple years ago and have recently gotten a second lighter weight can "out of jail" with the intention of hunting with it. I have worked up several new loads with the new suppressor and have fallen in love with shooting suppressed; I feel like my groups are better and love the idea of protecting my ears in the heat of the moment; I have always packed ear plugs but often forget or don't take time to put them in. I want to shoot suppressed, but am worried about the extra length and maneuvering through the woods.

For those of you that hunt suppressed, do you leave the suppressor on all the time Or do you leave it in your pack? If you leave it in your pack, do you use a quick attach system to protect the threads and make set up for the shot faster?

I realized I forgot to mention, I am new to posting here but have been here reading and learning for so many years I feel like I know many of you. I am embarrassed by how many years I have visited this site weekly and often daily but never posted (didn't feel like I had much to offer above what was mentioned). This is literally the first place I come when I have a question about shooting at distance or reloading for precision shooting. Thank you so much for your wealth of knowledge.

I just leave mine on the rifle i guess but i just use direct thread. I spose u could use a quick attach and keep it in ur pack though

I don't have a suppressor but I have in the past made decisions that weren't so good due to being in a hurry, just once won't hurt or out of laziness. So with what I have learned from myself, if you didn't remember or take the time to put in your ear plugs what makes you think you will go to all the trouble to get the can out and attach it in the same circumstances? Personally I would just leave it on. If for no other reason than I have proven I can't always be trusted to do what I should do.

Well said. Main reason i just ordered a tbac 338 ultra and leave it on. My hearing is crap now. And dont want it getting worse.

What length barrel are you running? And do you feel like leaving the suppressor on makes the rifle cumbersome while hiking?

Im running a dt A2 covert with an 18" and 16" barrel so thats about as short as its gonna get. With a varminter 3.0 its still a few inches shorter than a normal rifle with a 26" barrel.

i take mine off until i get to where im gonna start hunting and then it never leaves my hands and is muzzle down for the most part.. then when days over take er off throw it on my pack and start truckin

I leave the suppressor attached from the time I leave the truck until the hunt is over. If I am walking back and it's dark or I have harvested the intended target I remove the suppressor. Other than that it's on and ready.

I was torn on whether to pack it with the suppressor on or off as most of my barrels were longer and I honestly left it home a lot to avoid the controversy. Finally I cut my 6.5 PRC barrel down to 19" and problem solved. Slowed it down a bit but still has the 156 EOL moving at 2880; plenty fast. Cut back on weight and the accuracy was impressive with the shorter barrel. My pack rifle is a 25 CM that already has a 20" barrel so no problem there. Bottom line is I can't stand packing a long rifle and I did not want to worry about trying to screw it on when it was time to shoot so something had to give. Really happy with the shorter barrel

thats for sure. **** carbon flakes off the muffler and falls down into the **** barrel. Pain in the ***. Cleaning them ALOT helps

Leave mine attached mainly but I have a screw on ultra 7 and it fits all my rifles with the ba30 installed on each. I use a folding chassis so my rifle profile is low in my back pack etc. If needed I can put in my suppressor pouch for transport but generally do not do this.

I've hunted quite a bit with a supressor. I carry mine muzzle up in a vorn pack with the supressor attached. It's a 26" long barrel and 9" can. Hunting elk, I do have to watch out from time to time depending on the trees, but overall out hasn't been much of a bother. I shoot quite a few rifle comps with a supressor and carry it muzzle up with a sling. Carbon flaking off into the bore has never been an issue for me. Yes carbon builds up, but I generally don't see it flaking until I take thre can off.
If carrying it muzzle up in rain/snow, you may want to figure out how to keep rain/ snow out of the supressor and bore. I use a ziploc bag and just let my supressor cover hold it in place. Shooting through it has had no seen negative side effects on accuracy.
Hunting suppressed is absolutely awesome, I'll never go back to a brake.
