Seating depth

I would go to the max distance you intend on shooting, yeah you can see a seating change st 100 just like powder but I've had what I thought were really good loads at 100 fall apart at 500.
I Have the place to shoot to 1200

So farther the better

I would atleast get to 500 then when your happy try it at 1200 or whatever your comfortable with.
Just make sure conditions are good the farther you go out the more influence it has, wind flags are a good idea.

Nonsense. Testing powder loads at distance is a good thing. Seating depth is not. Don't confuse the two.
To each his own. Remember to test for yourself to verify any recommendations and see what ultimately works for you;
then get back to us. Nickel to a doughnut, you will have better seating depth testing results at 100 yards....

I agree with that. I do all my testing at 200 yds. I can see bullet holes and easily keep track of several loads each session.

I agree with others, seating depth should be done at a "closer range". 100-300 yards is fine, depending on wind. I've had some rifle/bullet combinations that opened to 2-3 MOA during seating. That might put you off target at or beyond five hundred yards. My past experience is rough seating depth testing results are generally quite obvious.

min no expert at this long range stuff yet, but I find ranges over 100 have enough wind correction, mirage, lack of clear aim point, and other struggle to make it best at 100. If you are shooting 500, u ou just can't see as well and you have to adjust wind each shot to winds you might not see clear.

I think you can make hits, but load development is about eliminating and maturing variables.
