Is my Bergara Bergarbage?

Morning everyone. This is going to be my last post/comment on this thread.

I honestly feel that this post from day one has been very negatively slanted against Bergara (beginning with the headline) and for largely unfounded reasons. We have worked hard with the OP to try and resolve the situation to his liking (including loaning an optic and also recently including offering a full refund of his purchase price assuming he truly didn't throw it in the gravel pit).

When the rifle came back the initial inspection on the accuracy complaint we did go through a few of our standard accuracy robbing touch-up steps such as touching up the recrowning, touching up head-space, lapping lugs etc.

Before we shipped the rifle back to the OP we accuracy verified it with 3 groups. The first three groups we shot, on an outdoor range, using factory Burgers, from a 60 something year old gunsmith were all sub-MOA. A picture of the target is attached for verification.
I'm not implying that Bergara is perfect. However, everyone needs to understand that when a rifle leaves our facility there are a multitude of factors that are beyond our control. Same goes for Nightforce and optics. Things like the entire rifle set-up, ammo, rings, shooting conditions, and yes, even sometimes the shooter themselves are beyond the manufacturers control.

I hope everyone pause and comprehend this before jumping to conclusions. I hope everyone also understands that whenever an inevitable issue arrises with a Bergara our company, including the CEO, are accessible, and even proactive, at attempting to help resolve. I wouldn't be sitting here typing this on a Saturday morning if that were not the case.

Enjoy your weekend. I'm headed to the range for a little group therapy for myself.

I think about everyone on this post can agree that Nate and the Bergara company has gone above and beyond the level of being a responsible manufacturer, and I personally want to thank him for his attempts to make this better. If every company had the same level of customer service, this world would be a lot less stressful!

Let's see pics of the destroyed rifle. If bergara offered me my money back I would have just said yes, perfect. You really can't ask for more than that from any company. If you guys really want to see the most awesome customer service at ant company look at Sweetwater. They sell music related products. They are a big company and every customer is assigned a sales professional. Every time I order anything from them I get a phone call from my guy thanking me and telling me he is there to handle any issues or help with the operation of the products. I would like to see companies in our industry emulate this level of customer service. It does appear that Bergara did everything they could to appease the op. Especially after finding out that he was offered a refund. None of us will ever know what the real problem was now. I wish he would of sent the rifle to one of us custom Smith's on here to go over it and do our own troubleshooting. I don't any smith that only has a Tasco for a test scope. What's he work on Red Ryder's. I have back up rifles and scopes for my past customers to use at any time even now that I'm retired I still back up all my customs I put out. Thanks to Nate for coming on here and telling his side of the story too. That's a stand up move for a CEO. Well I guess this thread is done finally. Been a doosie...

Begara went WAY above and beyond, including offering a full refund on what is clearly not, at least after it was returned, a problem rifle. By all indications it shot great with a factory installed scope, using factory ammo, and decent though not great in the OP's hands even with a cheap Tasco loaner. NF checked the scope and says it is fine, they might not like to admit their scopes break but I have NEVER heard of one coming back from repair still broken.

I, and quite a few others, spent a lot of time following this thread, made multiple posts and tried very hard to offer quality advice to the OP. At page 30 I have to say I really feel like a whole bunch of us wasted a tremendous amount of time. Bergara and NF both ended up with a ton of bad ink. The OP did a LOT of complaining, finger pointing and venting and I really do get how frustrating things like this can be, but he also would not approach this in any kind of a systematic way. I don't know at this stage whether it was the rings, his hand loads (which were pretty badly made with huge SD and ES) or the OP just can't shoot but for him to say he threw away 3 grand worth of gear after milking the sympathy vote and complaining all along about what a financial hardship he is experiencing is just ridiculous. To be honest, it really does tick me off. I have no sympathy at all for where the OP ended up; at this stage it is ALL his own fault.

As an amateur smith and a decent reloader, I contributed some tips or suggestions also. Although I can emphasize with the OP's frustration, I also think Nate and Bergara went above and beyond what a reasonable company should do. I agree with your take.

Well said Shep !!!!!! I wish he would have sent it to some smith(s) on this site too, there would then be an independent conclusion.. I don't know how to show 100 stars of approval for Shep's post #412, so I'll just add it to my reply and it will be shown again.

Well that turned quickly. That was a joke by the way, I didn't really destroy $4000 worth of stuff or blow it up. Sorry if my joke was only funny to me. Quitting tobacco on the same day as doing my "final test" was pretty miserable and I thought some comic relief would help.

Since Nate got involved I have been defending Bergara regardless of who or what's at fault, so I'm not sure why all of a sudden it's "unfairly targeting Bergara" now. I'm only relaying what info I got from what I have. Once again, thank you Nate, you HAVE gone above and beyond. Regardless of whatever the issue may be you stood out far above what was expected, especially next to NFs customer service.

This thread was massive, but I'm pretty sure in there I did mention I had it checked out by more than one smith. As for saying my handholds were bad...uhh no. Chrono was garbage. My .308s and 5.56 hand loads have been great, and I took far less time and attention to detail making those.

I did try and systematically diagnose as recommended, but tried doing it as cheap as possible without sinking even more money into this mess. For what it's worth today I finally did go out and by a $400 Vortex and new rings, as well as finally finding a sympathetic range employee who let me use an old beat up used Remmington 700 they were selling with my NF.

Once again I can't say anything conclusive but here's what I found. The old used Remington 700 with my NightForce seemed just fine. I used some non match grade ammo and got 0.8-1.3 MOA groups not counting the fliers I felt myself pull.

The Bergara with the new Vortex and rings preformed pretty much the same as the last billion accuracy tests. I really nice group, an ok group, a bad group, and a terrible group. I let the barrel cool as best as I could for an indoor range between groups. I'm not trying to finger point but just hypothesize. Perhaps more than three 3 round groups tested by Bergara would have started opening up. Maybe not. Maybe I just suck at shooting. I really don't know anymore but I've never had this experience with any other rifle/setup other than the times something was confirmed defective by the mfg. The confusing part (and why I think I kept shifting focus on what the culprit was) is that it shoots a nice group, them widen, widen, huge mess, back to nice. So Every time I get a nice group I think I have conclusive evidence but its not. It just seems to yo-yo between group sizes as if the barrel is red hot shotgunning rounds even though it's not. I should have shot far more rounds using the Tasco or any other scope before blaming the optic, but once again at $50 per box this was and is financially draining me and testing large quantities of rounds just hasn't been feasible.

I really don't know and I'm tired of guessing, especially if it sounds like I'm trying to blame everyone. I apologize, but this has sent me near total meltdown trying to figure it out. I'm literally in debt now from trying to figure out a dam rifle that still isn't acceptable for even hunting deer.

Nate has been great. But I wish he wouldn't have sent me a message saying he wishes to refund my money and "part ways" since I surely lost him customers, as I would happily accept a replacement rifle. I really want the HMR to work for me, especially after seeing how much they appear to care, but I'll gladly take a refund and try another company if that's what he wishes.

Put it in the safe, pour some Hennesy Cognac and have a cigar. Remember cigars don't count as smoking if you don't inhale.

My Bergara Ridge 300 win Mag starting shooting better after I stuck it in a Boyd's Tacticool stock that I had a Remington 700 in.I bedded the stock for the Remington,it was not bedded for the Bergara but it was a perfect fit.
