Is Tangent Theta worth the $ over NF?

TT > Minox > NF

Minox might have slightly better glass, it is very hard for me to tell, even shooting them side by side. One of my main varmint shooting buddies has a Minox, and they are very nice.

However, I also remember the time a few years ago when he put it on a new custom rifle getting ready to leave on a week-long trip and we were sighting it in. I had helped him mount it in Burris Signature rings so I knew he had not turned the screws too tight or had misalignment problem. And yet, no matter where you turned the elevation turret the rifle still shot to the exact same place. You could not see anything wrong but the turret was obviously broken. He sent it to Minox and they fixed it, but I prefer scopes that don't break. I couldn't help but think, "Dang, what would have happened if this scope had waited another 50 shots to break, after we had flown to the Dakotas?" I have a bunch of NF's and none has ever broken. I know dozens of guys with multiple NF's and they all say the same thing.

Occasionally someone will tell me their NF "does not track straight," but invariably it was because they did not know how to mount their scope true to the bore. I am fully aware of the alleged tracking problems with the Competition, but neither of mine has ever failed to track perfectly, and I see a lot of other ones at F-Class matches and none of those guys have any complaints, either, so I'm not going to listen to what some so-called scope tester says. I also have faith that if I did get a bad scope NF would fix it.

A far bigger problem is people who seldom or never make a substantive post, but make frequent posts "correcting" and "discussing" other posters. There is a large amount of great information in this thread for someone in the market for a high-end scope, but there is also a lot of "meta" crap from self-appointed correctors. Which are you, substantive or meta?
I don't know or care. But, there is a difference in discussing other posters and correcting wrong information. In that context I'd be substantive.

Yes, but they also bring out a lot of facts and great opinions that can be a huge help to someone trying to make sure they do not waste money buying the wrong scope.

The problem is that a lot of people perceive that they have the right to stamp out opinions they do not like. Take for example when I questioned whether TT would be staying in business. I got "corrected" by someone for even bringing that up, but then a poster told how he had bought an expensive Premier scope that is now a "tomato stake" because he cannot get a new lens for it, providing a perfect example of why I brought it up.

It would be nice if everyone could just respectfully state their opinions and explain the "why" behind their preferences, and most do. But it is the Internet so you will always have vendors and their buddies trying to stamp out opinions they do not like with personal attacks. The reader just has to ignore that look for the gems of information. They are there.
Well, being you quoted me, the OP conceded on page 2 for one, posts # 19 & 26, he has not been back.
I am going to say this, not spitefully, and w/o malice, You, and you alone were the cause of this thread being drug out. Your incessant certainty that NF is on par with TT caused quite a stir, and you are still at it I see.
But you are 100% correct on opinions, and here is where the disconnect enters. Some advice I would like to give you, you receive NO points if the OP chooses NF. The op also said he was in the process of moving, and should have the opportunity to look into both, post was over. It is his decision only.
I shoot Kahles and NF, I do not miss or make shots based on my glass, they suffice for My Use. A 400 bix-n-andy trigger will not make myself a better shooter, I do not miss shots because my Calvins are that sub par.
A friend, who was sponsored by Premier when TT acquired them, was given 1 TT as a replacement for 2 premiers that went south. He asked me to sell it for him, as Facebook was a great avenue to do so and he was not a user. He had to move on from TT as he needed 2 scopes. The story, I did not dare open the box and fondle the TT, just moved the product. For fear of needing 4 more after buying his. Some people like and seem to need quality, let them have their way, it is their coin.
Now, stick a fork in this BS and call it done.

I'm glad it was just a joke because when I did a side-by-side comparison with an ATACR it was very obvious that the resolution of the ATACR was much better.

But as I say, resolution is only one aspect in determining which scope is best for any particular person.
^^^^^ Exactly. Every body raves over the pop and clarity but don't touch on everything else. When you start actually picking it all apart nf has better glass in my opinion. I'am not talking about tt i'am talking about leu

I think scopes are a matter of personal preference. For me, it's about getting the best bang for the buck and due to limited amount of money I have, Nightforce is barely within my reach. But, for overall performance from a scope, nothing within the money range of them comes close and at double their cost, few are any better.
I would prefer to use the money for something else other than buy a scope for a few extra bells and whistles, because I know I can't ever outshoot a Nightforce scope.
I agree. For me I put my money into emerging technologies because that's what interest me. And I just can't afford 3-5k on a scope every 2-3 years. Therefore I've been using Sig Sauer BDX SCOPES and pairing these scopes to my Garmin Fortrex 701 for firing solutions beyond 800M. I've also recently bought a SigSauer Tango4 for LR coyote hunting. I think it's the best mid priced scope given all the features it has. But that's for another discussion that's already happened I'm sure.
If I could afford it I'd likely by the TT. For 3 reasons:
First it's in my backyard. I live in NB Canada and TT is a NS (Nova Scotia) Co. about 4 hrs away. Second their turrets are 2nd to none. Finally I've got more Time on that scope then the others in the top 5. NF included. As a retired CAF member of over 31yrs. I've had many many opportunities to handle and manipulate many scopes. Especially during sniper concentration competitions held here in NB (New Brunswick) Canada. All the big five are usually represented there. All the different militaries seem to find things they like on other scopes then their own. So I guess there is no perfect scope.
So to the OP. No matter which you choose. I'm sure you'll be happy until you try that next of the top 5 scopes.
And I'll be jealous regardless.
just my 2c

What is wrong with a thread being "drug out" if what is going on is an informative debate on the the many factors involved in buying a high-end scope?

And I never said "NF is on par with TT." I have never even seen one. What I said was that when all the factors are considered, my opinion is that NF is a better option, at least for many people, and the OP might be one of those people.

I do not post to get "points," I post to try to help people figure out which scope will be the best for them. If you do not find my posts beneficial you should feel free to skip them.

Hey I was nice, and respect your opinion. We must come from different worlds, the post was for the most part an argument.
I like NF myself, and if I still shot all MOA, all my optics would be NF Atacr F1's, with a moar reticle, love the scopes and the reticle. IMO, if you like to have some or all of your wind dialed, one of the quickest reticles to use.
I never told the op to buy a TT, I told him to search for bad press on them, not much out there. The same cannot be said about NF, even though there is 10 or more times more NF out there.

The fact that people think they can "help other people find the best scope for them" when they don't even have experience with enough scopes which are presently available to have a clue what the "best scope for them" is... astonishes me.

I'd take a nailgun to the forehead before I'd like that kind of "help."

I'm sorry and I don't mean to add to the tension of this thread, but inflammatory "sarcastic" responses are a big reason why these threads get out of hand like they do. Very hard to tell what is humor, sarcasm or true feelings. Rant off.
That's what emoticons are for. A winking face means it's a joke. In these times of burning cities, Marxism on the rise, disease, cancel culture, etc., don't we need a little humor? Everything doesn't have to be deadly serious. We are so fortunate to be arguing about whether a $2500 scope is good enough or you need a $4000 one. Count your blessings!

Humor is great. Like you said it's much needed today. But sarcasm is not the best form of humor in this instance. This is a pretty agitated thread. Emotions are running high. Most people aren't looking for witty responses or will take the time to analyze and determine what your tone and inflection is meant to be. It's just pretty immature to inject a "smart" reply and expect people to just get it.
