257 Weatherby with 131gr Blackjacks?

One last bump. Has anyone loaded this yet? Blackjack gave me a few starting loads, but none with H1000. They really like Rl26, but good luck getting ahold of some. I have 1/2 lb., but dont want to develop a load, then have no more powder left.

Can you share the RL26 loads?

I really hesitate to share any load data, especially with powders known to get squirrelly in summer temps. We sell so many barrels - in one gun a load will run 3070 and the same reamer and barrel type another gun will run 2970. Don't blow yourself up chasing ghosts!

My 32" Blake Barrel runs 3405 fps with 63.6 gr RL26 loaded at 3.510" with wolf LR standard primers. This is a slower accuracy load for this barrel.

This is with the Blackjack spec reamer. The SAAMI will work but I wouldn't expect the accuracy to carry over.

The barrel can run faster but not much in this summer heat with RL26. Please don't just put that load into a WBY and pull the trigger. You might need a new plunger or a new hand.

Work up with RL26 carefully!

I went to the range yesterday to run some loads with H1000 through the rifle with the 131gr.

I didn't have any starting data so I looked at several loads for 115-120gr bullets and backed the booke number down. Most of the loads showed about 68-70gr as start points so I backed my starting load down to 66gr. I loaded 1 gr at a time high up to about 73gr. I only made it to 70gr before I got a noticeable ejector mark on the brass with flat primer.

At 69grs though I got this group so I think with a little tuning this will be good.

This data is for MY rifle. Start lower and work up. I would have started lower had I had better data to work with. That is why I am posting numbers, so someone else has a better idea of how to be safe. Other people need to have some place to start.

I dont have a velocity yet, but I will borrow a chrono after the load is finished.

FYI, my barrel is a SAAMI spec barrel not a custom ream.

FYI my loads ended up .02 off the lands with the bullet seated 1 full diameter into the case neck.

It is a 26" barrel. I am going to borrow a chrono after I finish dialing in the load to get a final number.

So often, people say incorrectly without experience, that SAAMI WBY will not shoot good. They and 25-06 SAAMI really can. Our BJ reamer was designed to help with accuracy and forgiveness compared to SAAMI but SAAMI will work too!

That group is stellar for brass that is so criticized for a belt and double-radius shoulder!

I agree. Weatherby and other belted cases can be shooters if you do your part, get angood load, and get a good bore.

This group was also shot yesterday from my Dad's 300 Weatherby mag. This rifle is a BOX STOCK Walmart series 1 Vanguard. The only modification is a muzzle brake. The load is 168gr TTSX from Remington brass. This rifle has a CRAP trigger with tons of creep.

I understand the arguments people have against belted mags and weatherby but don't criticize if you have not tried it and given it a fair shack.
