Two VERY Different Presidents

As an individual and as Governor of California, Ronald Reagan steadfastly held to his belief in U.S. American citizens' Constitutional Rights, including their Right as individuals, to Bear Arms. He held to this position throughout his U.S. Presidency, even after an assassin attempted to murder him in 1981.

A 1983 quote of then U.S. President, Ronald Reagan; "You won't get gun control by disarming law-abiding citizens. There's only one way to get real gun control: Disarm the thugs and the criminals, lock them up, and if you don't actually throw away the key, at least lose it for a long time... It's a nasty truth, but those who seek to inflict harm are not fazed by gun controllers. I happen to know this from personal experience."

So, when elected, what does Democrat President, Bill Clinton do? Well, in his infinite wisdom, he goes and lobbys for, and then imposes the 1994 Crime Bill package, which included the Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act, commonly known as the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, on law abiding citizens, which has had no measurable positive impact on reducing crime, or even slightly detours criminals!

Gee, I wonder if Hillary's insanity is a result of infection by proximity, or was she just naturally that way to begin with? Maybe it is contagious, and she infected Bill, long ago! It sure seems like everyone who gets too close to her contracts it! Look what has happened to most of the rest of the Democratic Party lately... "Don't drink the Kool-Aid!"

You will have to forgive me but I have a tendency to play devils advocate. I can't help it. I am in IT so its part of my nature to identify bugs before they go out the door.

Ronald Reagan signed the Munford Act in 1967 which repealed public carry of firearms in California. This was done because the black panthers were exercising their 2nd amendment rights. Gov Reagan said he saw no reason why on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons and that guns were a ridiculous way to solve problems that have to be solved among people of good will. Apply that to what is happening around the country today. In 1986, Reagan signed the Firearm Owners Protection Act which protected firearms owners to some extent but at the same time contained the Hughes Amendment which banned ANY and ALL sales and transfers, or even mere possession, of fully automatic weapons, manufactured after May 19, 1986. This caused the prices of pre ban weapons to become unaffordable to most. I remember back in the mid 80's seeing a fully auto m60 machine gun at a gun store for $2500. Today they start around $40k. Ronald Reagan also came out in favor of the Brady Bill and the Assault weapons bill in the early 90's. This was representative of his true opinion when he no longer had to win an election. The assault weapons ban in contrast to the Firearms Owners Protection Act actually had no effect on the prices of "Assault Weapons". One could actually argue that it caused the prices to go down`. One could go to a gun show, purchase a sporter AK with the thumbhole stock and 5 rd mags for $300, walk down to the next table and buy a stock set for $40, walk down to the next table and buy east german 30 rd mags for $7 each, and then walk down to the next table and buy a 1000 rds of chinese 7.62x39 ammo for $150. Nixon wanted handguns banned. George W Bush was going to extend the assault weapons ban until he was convinced otherwise. Trump has flip flopped on gun control. The only reason republicans protect the 2nd amendment is because they want to keep their jobs. Democrats fall on both sides of the issue for the same reason. Point being, no politician has ever been a hero for the 2nd amendment. They do what they do for fear of losing the next election. Just look at Lindsey Graham's about face opinion of the president since John McCain died. Its all about the votes.

I liked Reagan. He was a great president. I'm sad he wasn't a second amendment purist. Hardly any of them are, but I was pulling for Ted Cruz in 2016 because he comes closest to earning that title.

What I find most disheartening is that the Democratic party has gone all in for gun control. It seems the Bill of Rights should not be compromised by any political party since the oath of the office is to support & defend the Constitution. Undermining the 2nd Amendment isn't upholding the oath.

You hit the nail on the head in the title of your post. It is vital for gun owners to vote for candidates that support our right to keep and bear arms. We can be assured that if our enemy ever gets control of all three branches of government again they will do everything in their power to destroy our Second Amendment rights.
