220 swift etronx

I have this 220 swift that shoots great (.25") with factory ammo. 50 gr vmax. Been trying to reverse-engineered load and can't figure out what brand of powder Remington used.
does anybody have any idea what it may be? I know its 37 gr of a dark-grey slim stick-like texture. Would appreciate any leads

There is every possibility that Remington use a blended powder that isn't available to us reloaders. A lot of the major ammo manufacturers use blended powder to obtain the burn rate and results they are after.

getting harder to find fac ammo. guess I will keep trying. Have most info, 37 grain of powder, Hornady vmax 50 gr bullet, case length is 2.20", col= 2.665", primer is etronx and bullet speed = 3800 fps.

For 50-52 grain bullets in the Swift Accurate 2700 has been very good accuracy and velocity wise for me. They have load data on their web site.

I looked at Nosler #8 and the only powder in that velocity range @ 37.0gn is A-2520. They list Viht140 @ 37gn (3676fps) and RL15 @ 3754fps w/26" barrel.
Hornady shows IMR4320, IMR4064, Win748 and Varget all in the 37.0gn range @ 3800ish.
I would give Win748 "a shot" first. I have had good luck (accuracy) with this in the .223Rem and .22-250Rem but sometimes it can be a roll of the dice trying to emulate factory loads for reasons stated above. Good luck and be careful.

Even Underwood uses proprietary powders that cant be bought by us little people.

Wait, do you have the electric Remington ?

yes I do. but last night while browsing web, I was able to eye-ball pic of "old" IMR 4064 and it looked just like the powder on factory loads. charged me 3 loads, 37 gr, 37.5 and 38 gr. all 50gr VMAX at 2.67" and 3 rounds of 37.5 hit just like best factory loads, at about 3850 fps.

When I had a Ruger 77 varmint 220 Swift I used IMR 4064 with Speer 52 gr match HP. It was VERY accurate but do not know how fast it actually was because 38 years ago I did not own a chrno. I could kill a crow waaaaay out in a peanut field in east NC with no problem if the wind was not howling. When they were hit it was just a poof of feathers.

30 years ago IMR 4064 was the go to powder in a 220 Swift. The load of choice back then was you guessed it 37-38 grs of 4064. It is not very temp stable. I have used W760 with good luck. Currently I am using RL-16 with good results and it is temp stable.

I hear a lot about it being a barrel burner so when I shoot it I pause about a minute between shots to let it cool down some. I plan on doing some cayote and hog hunting in the Texas hill country with it.
