Hard/impossible extraction Rem 700

A custom Saum Rem 700 SA that has had the primary extraction fixed is refusing to extract a fired case from the chamber again.

This rifle was working great, extracting just fine after the chamber was polished but over many months sitting in the safe & with use it gets worse & worse

The bolt will come up but when the bolt handle is hit to remove the case it is reluctant to come out or stays in the chamber with the extractor partially ripping the rim off requiring the use of a cleaning rod

Is this a primary extraction issue ?

Is the dirty chamber & or brass issue ?

The load has been backed off but there is possibly a carbon ring/build up

Any ideas on this ?

Put up some pictures of the brass and if you had a borescope that would be nice to get pictures of the chamber they are very cheap nowadays as low as $50 for a teslong in this sport is almost a required item

Sounds like a chamber or pressure issue to me.
How is bolt lift?
How do brass/primers look after firing?

I would recommend having a good smith look at it. There are so many reasons for this it is hard to diagnose unless examined personally.

One thing you could check is the cases, if you haven't trimmed the fired cases will not take a bullet without force, Another thing, the load could be very hot, proper sizing was not done, If polished the chamber could be mechanically trapping the case, and so on.

Pictures would help but may not be enough to find the problem.

Has the brass been shot in any other chamber besides this one?

My guess is either it's a hot load expanding the web or your dies are not sizing brass correctly down at the .200 line

I have a M700 .300 SAUM that had hard extraction issues. I sent it back to Remington along with some brass and ammo. They polished the chamber and it cured the problem. I handloaded for it and had no problem. Last year, I found some ammo for a good price. When I fired it, the cases were sticking slightly and there ejector markets on the fired cases. Since your chamber was polished, I would guess that your problem is over preasure. Also, if your chamber has a "bulge" towards the front of the chamber, the case will expand to fill the chamber and after the spring back, the case may still be too big to back out of the chamber.

My thoughts as well. I've messed around with a 700 that wouldn't extract factory ammo right out of the box. It went back to the factory and they sent a new barreled action. In the end, it wasn't worth messing with myself as I have no idea what the issue ended up being. It was an issue enough for them to send me a new gun though.

Old 700s were good rifles. Would not touch a new one given the alternatives.

I would take a look at the case end for pressure sugns such as ejector marks , flattened primer ! You could have a pressure problem ! Might also check your headspace as setting the neck back too far can cause pressure problems !
