Tikka Customs

I like Tikkas in general there a good starting platform.

This rifle was a budget build (by AU standards) with what was immediately available, so it came together pretty quick and i was impressed with the accuracy. made me feel like i could shoot but most likely the gun plays a big part.

I totally spaced on specs.

What was the weight of your kremlin stocks before you put them on? Can't seem to find a weight Online.

If he can do it with a snap in I want to know how to do it. Something new.

If we are talking about converting a T3 6.5 CM to 6.5PRC my smith opened the bolt face and that was it besides setting it back two threads to clean up the crooked chamber.
I've run about 40 rds thru it without issue. Shoots super and it also speeded up a bit. As a CM it was slow but as a PRC it runs factory loads at advertised velocity........

Dhbwa my fault got the thread mixed up with a guy converting a rem 700. Too many threads going in different directions. You were absolutely correct.

Is this the same for a T3 270? Just open up the bolt face but no mods to extractor or feed rails etc?

Apologies in advance for the lack of knowledge.

I have a Tikka T3x 300 win mag barreled action laying around. Besides a re-barrel/chamber, what mods to the action are required to shoot other long action cartridges? Same question for short action cartridges in the same action.

Nothing.

To convert, say, T3 270 to 6.5 cm, is it only a barrel change and good to go?

I understand that Tikka only makes long action, so if the 6.5 cm is quite a bit shorter cartridge, do you just have extra room to cycle, or is there some other modification?

no other mods needed. The T3 is very forgiving. Mostly due the detached mag....

What loads and bullets are you shooting with each one?
Hornady factory offerings have produced several .25" groupings. The average groups from other have been around .5" respectively with ELDM(140Cm 147PRC) and ELDX(143Cm/PRC) ammunition.
Since these are hunting, rifles I am more than happy with those results.
TBH, the worst group I've gotten from my PRC has been .69" edge to edge and that was with 143gr. ELDM.

The action length is a long action. The cycling distance is determined by the bolt release. A long action has a longer milled shelf, for example. IMO, a hunting rifle with the potential to have multiple calibers over its lifetime should always be a long action. The benefit you gain in a short action versus the .000000009987 second of additional cycling time is moot. It's not like you're playing bullet baseball, I mean PRS.
If you still wish to shorten the bolt stroke, there are several companies as well as OEM distributors who have short and bolt releases which come with roll pins. It's an easy modification and at that point it simply comes down to buying a shorter internal length box magazine. Tikkas are quite possibly the perfect factory action for modification.

Warning! This thread is more than 4 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
