Bedford/Breezewood PA anyone?

On a drive today I was reminded how nice the area is. I noticed a bunch of state forrest and game lands on the map. I am wondering if anyone local to there would offer tips or show me around the area some. It looks like some opportunities for hillside to hillside shooting or picking them out of the scatter timber in farmlands.

Yeah me too. I'm looking into WV along the Green Brier River as well. Might take a road trip while I'm off work. I get a truck tomorrow. I've been without wheels since Wolf closed the state.

Buchanan State Forest is right over the mountain from Breezewood. Plenty of hotels and restruants in Breezwood, plenty deer in the Forest. But the public access is on the top of the mountain. If you get something you'll need two hearts to drag it up the hill...

Our camp is located in Cameron Co. which is area wise one of the smallest counties in the state.
So some of our hunting spills over into neiboring counties including Clearfield.
I moved to Florida when i retired now over 20 years ago, but i still return to our camp when ever i can and always for the deer season.
My route on the 1200 mile trip takes me over to Phillipsburg, then south to I 99/220 down thru the Bedford area. Then i pick up I 68 at Cumberland Md, west to WV where i can spend the rest of the day driving before reaching the VA state line. It can be hard for me keeping my eyes on the road for much of that trip, especially thru the mountains of both WV and VA. Problem you will find in both of those states and others as well is access to the land in order to hunt, since so much of what you see as you drive is actually private property.
In that regard, Pa hunters are among the luckiest in the country with regard to access to lots of public owned land.
Not so in neiboring states, who also have the same type terrain to hunt as we do.

I work in Philipsburg and live about 10 miles from it. West Virginia has a lot of public land also. I absolutely love my trip down that way. I have family in the Summerville area near Beckley West Virginia.

Well that would be your answer imop, for sure there are lots of great looking spots as you drive down that way.

Live in West "by God" Virginia all my life. You have it right, this place has tons of wildlife. But your vehicle will have to be tuff as the roads are left natural ""

I grew up Somerset County. It's beautiful, it still feels like home, but I don't even like driving through that state. Lord willing, I will never go back there. Blue politics have DESTROYED that state. I lived in WV for 5 of the last 6 years. SE WV (Greenbrier County and surrounding areas) might be one of the most underrated areas in the country. I've lived all over, in Oklahoma now, I still check property there. Absolute gold. This is not a two horse race. The property tax difference alone will buy a nice rifle per year. You were warned.

I was looking at areas around the Greenbrier River and Cranberry. I have some aunts uncles and cousins around Richwood. The forester I spoke with told me it would be difficult shooting Ridgetop to Ridgetop around Greenbrier because of forest density. I've been out of work since this virus stuff started and without a vehicle. I just got a vehicle Two days ago. I planned on making a road trip down that way but I've been called back to work Monday. Darn luck.

Yeah. Power lines and gas right of ways are your best bet. It's not hard once people get to know you to find private property that will allow you to shoot. In WV that is.

I doubt theres a half mile stretch of straight road in that whole state. lol
I once saw a set of tail lights while going around one of those sharp curves in the road, and it turned out they were mine.
So be paying attention while driving down that way, dont be gawking at all the nice LR spots.

That's for sure. Even some of the interstates are bad.
