Hey all, I would like to ask everyone what priming tool/tools they're currently using. Also I'd appreciate it if you'd add past or current experiences with other priming tools. Please add your pros and cons as well. Thank you!

I've been using an old Lee hand priming tool for years and I really can't complain. This is the second one I've had and the first one had the casting crack. These are no longer made and I'm thinking of upgrading in the near future. I'm not going to go crazy and buy the Primal Rights bench seater, but pretty much everything else on the market I'm looking at.

The Frankford Arsenal Platinum hand priming tool is one on my list. I think it's cool that the primer depth can be controlled with it, but I'm not sure if I constantly want to be adjusting that for every caliber I load for. I've also been looking at the tools from Sinclair, 21st Century, and K&M. These all seem to have good reviews and everyone says they had really good feel when seating primers. Having good feel when priming is important to me, but having to single load each primer at a time doesn't sound ideal. The other hand priming tools from RCBS, Lyman, and Hornady kind of have mixed reviews and don't seem to be any better or worse than one another. I also have been looking at the RCBS bench mounted priming tool and think it's really cool as well. The only thing I don't like about the RCBS bench tool is having to waste the time to fill primer tubes. Its nice to be able to just dump X amount of primers into the tray and start seating. I look forward to hearing your experiences and opinions on the best priming tool and hopefully you guys can help me make up my mind haha. Thank you.

I have a K&M single stage primer tool.It is very good. Have heard good things about the Frankford, but never owned one. I got scared about using the Lee 10 years ago after hearing stories about them exploding with a full batch of primers in the tray.

Do you find it to be tedious loading in one primer at a time? Or not too bad? I've never used a priming tool like this so that's why I ask. Thank you!

It takes maybe 3 seconds to seat primers one at a time. I just dump them in a plastic pan so that they are easy to reach. I think my eyes are too important to take a chance on having 15 or so in a primer tray. All it takes is one big bang to detonate all of them at once.

I have used an RCBS hand primer for many years (round primer tray) I like it and its been durable, as it ages the primer lid on tray starts to come off a lot and of course that is tedious to say the least. No other complaints about it. Just bought a frankford arsenal and it is quite a nice set-up, like the adjustment for depth it is easy and don't seem to need messing with between cartridges. Lid is tight and it comes with all the shellholders you'll probably ever need. Would recommend it and think you would like it. I give it five stars :)

A little pricey but a quality tool. I use the separate heads for different case sizes instead of the universal.

The Frankford Arsenal Platinum hand primer comes complete with all the shell holders that you will need. Nothing else will be needed as the large and small priming pin retainers are also included along with a compression spring. Also included is your universal primer tray with a feeding gate that can be locked to prevent feeding after your tray has been loaded then inserted.
There is a dial on the the units base that will allow for a controllable primer seating depth.
This is a big benefit if you reload multiple calibers such as pistol as well as rifle. More so if you use different primers such as CCI , Federal , & Winchester brands in both large and small size variations. Hardness levels also do vary and with too much pressure applied upon seating resulting in a damaged primer.
Some rifle ( IE .308 , 6.5 Creedmoor etc.) as well as Pistol Brass (IE .45 ACP) use either depending on your choice of brass as well as it's configuration.
Because some primers are softer in construction than others it is nice to be able to seat them sub flush say -.002" - -.003" without dimpling or worse yet destroying the primers themselves.
The Frankford Arsenal Platinum will alleviate all of the above concerns !
With that being said Frankford Arsenal makes a very good and extremely flexible priming tool. One that is easily used in one hand . Change outs from large to small primers are also easy and very fast.
I have been using this tool now for about 1 1/2 years without any issiues.
Adjusting the primer seating depth is not a big deal plus it is certainly an advantageous feature as noted above.
All in all a very useful tool, however until your unit is broken in changing out shell holders, or for that matter going from large to small primer holders can be a bit of a challenge due to spring tension. More so if you have large hands, however rest assured once you have what I like to call seasoned your priming tool all will function smoothly and correctly.
All in all I would definitely recommend the Frankford Arsenal Platinum hand primer .
Hope this helps !

RCBS hand primer for as long as I can remember. I liked that I could prime while sittingnin my La-z- Boy watching TV. Worsening arthritis in both hands has made using this tool more difficult. I've been looking at bench mounted options for a while and last night ordered the RCBS auto bench primer and the matching InLine Fab quick change top plate.

I have the Forester and love it!
