H4350 Located $$$

Nice! I got some of that h1000 this morning! I'm all for supporting local business especially during these times but not if they're going to price gouge me.
I have talked to a local gun shop owner the price he pays for powder is about 10 percent less than what we can order it for he still has to pay shipping and hazmat then needs to put 20 to 30 percent on top to make a profit so sometimes it is not gouging we all have to make a living he has a lease on a building, insurance, employees, electric bill water and trash pickup all this before he makes a dime. I know there is gouging going on but it is not always the case as a small business owner I see all this and don't mind paying a few dollars more a pound getting it local

Agreed

Wouldn't it be nice if Hodgdon just started manufacturing some of their powder here in the U.S. That sure would circumvent some of the problems that we are seeing every year, just saying.
they don't make it all they do is repackage and sell under their name I have been using some of the ramshot powders lately with real good results and its easier to get most times might be worth a look if you get into a bind

Who makes it?

Hey guys, I found 2, 8lb. kegs of H4350 sitting on a reloading shelf in a farm supply/equipment sales store. My question is how much is too much for this powder. I bought 8lb. from an online supplier last year for around $210.00. Trouble is that was last year and supply and demand has changed drastically. With the events going on around us, should I just bite the bullet and pay the extra cash ($269.99) which with the tax would be $290.00 or wait until it is available here in the states at a later date. I know this is probably price gouging, but what I know is this is a very desirable powder and quite rare right now. What would you do? It is not the best choice for some of the calibers I reload for but will work with all of them with the right bullet choices. It comes out to $36.25 per lb. with taxes, ouch.
if you want it.....
Pay the money and let the small time guy make a little.

comes full circle.

Nowadays I guess you take what you can get I would offer him $220 that's approximately what it should go for I believe and see if he takes it

if you need it, you need it. a couple dollars really wont make that big of a difference. if you have a bunch in reserve, wait for a better price.

also - what are some other powders we can use as an alternative?

Check with Midsouth Shooters Supply. I bought an 8-pound jug yesterday from them. Before taxes and hazmat it was $205.88.

This for sure. The small shops can't typically buy in large qtys like some suppliers can so they are likely paying close to retail plus hazmat and all the other stuff that is cost of business. They are likely just trying to support their small community by having a sought after commodity rather than gouging.

I can see a theme here and it's been that way for years... some of the wholesalers/businesses keep their prices down better than others and don't gouge people when runs occur. Only you can decide if the price is acceptable to you. That said I ve went without a few times or used my second choice component 'just to vote with my dollar'. I get PO d with those businesses (we all know which ones they are) and try to spend my dollars at the ones who are reasonable! That said I ve paid 30-32 a pound to a local business a time or two when I felt I had no choice... but he rarely gets any of my business because of principle.

Good Luck with whatever you decide!

There seems to be a supply of H4831sc that hit the market. Powder Valley, Midway and others had it all of a sudden 2 days ago.
H4350 is the same situation. You will see these powders hit the shelves and then disappear after a little while. Then nothing for a while.
If you pick up a 8# of anything, that should last you until you need more. That's at least 800 rounds for most loads. So even if you shoot 100 rounds / week, that's 2 months.
I wouldn't pay that much over the normal price for more than one 8# of any powder.
