New to reloading-7mm-08 question

Another question on Nosler Partitions. When I first started hunting I grabbed two boxes of 140 grain partitions loaded by Federal. I could never get them to group better than 1.5 to 2 inches at 100. Since I started reloading I checked the coal on the 120 grain ttsx that were shooting sub moa and found that it was right at 2.750. I decided to check the noslers yesterday and found that the coal was 2.745. I wonder if they are two far off the lands and if seating them at say 2.750 or longer (closer to the lands, even though i don't at this time know exactly where the lands are) would help with accuracy. Thanks again so much. Yea it seems like the partition is hit or miss in accuracy no matter what anyone does. I just wanted to make that round work after watching hours of The Real Gunsmith on Youtube. He seems to love those partitions.

Believe me. If you get one to shoot, your search is over. Nothing walks from a partition!

Challenge accepted! That's whats so fun about the reloading. I get to tinker with every little aspect till i get it right or pull my hair out.

I know a 140 gr partition out of a 7-08 will kill a moose! The 140 partition was the first bullet I started reloading in mine. I'm pretty sure you can get them to fly right your rifle. Partitions have worked well for me in a lot of my rifles. For a long time they were the only bullet I shot at big game with.

I know a 140 gr partition out of a 7-08 will kill a moose! The 140 partition was the first bullet I started reloading in mine. I'm pretty sure you can get them to fly right your rifle. Partitions have worked well for me in a lot of my rifles. For a long time they were the only bullet I shot at big game with.

Rick, my uncle, has a 280. If he shoots, bt, dead on. If he shoots partition, 3/8 inch to the right. IN A KNOT!.

41.5-42 grains Varget. Work up. Start at about 41.
Standard primer.
If not, try cfe223.

Hey Mackegney, the load I used was 47.7 grs of H414 CCI 200, 140 gr partition @2.800 in and it gave me 2816 FPS out of a 22 inch barrel. Not a hot load but it's been a great killer, longest shot 500 yds on a Bou someone else wounded, other caribou, a moose, 6 animals in Africa, a few deer.

IMR-4064 has worked good for me on 139gr and 140gr bullets, my loads are usually between 40.5gr and 42.0gr.

IMR-4895 is another good option and Varget as well

So I tested my first loads today. No chronograph results yet. My loads were Barnes ttsx 140 grains at 2.755 coal. Ladder tested 40, 40.5, and 41 grains of varget. Gun seemed to like 40 grains best. Picture with measurement were my second shots from 200. Made the adjustments on my scope. It's a cheap vx2 3x9x40 but it holds zero well and tracks well too. The second picture is after adjustment. Almost dead center. This is so fun!

if you are not finding any pressure signs you may find another node a little hotter be careful working up as you are new to this game and we want to keep you around awhile good luck with it looks like you are on the right track
