Steel Targets, chain v conveyer belt?

What's everyone using to hang steel targets?

I was using chain but got tire of replacing it. Switched to conveyer belt but now the targets don't swing near as much when you hit them.

Guess I need 25 magneto speed target hit indicators

I'm using firehose that the fire department is throwing out after it's useful life. Swings good and seems to work great. The really big hose I can cut in half and then half again. The big target is hanging by half of big hose that is not covered by canvas. The two smaller targets are hanging by canvas wrapped 4" or 6" hose. I never found conveyor belt here in the Texas Panhandle. Oh the sag is caused from the slick concrete floor in my garage. On soil I can prop up as needed and I have since gone to ⅝" rebar instead of ½".

I use old skidder chains. 5/8 thick links harden steel, Can't break it !

my chain is hardened steel also, never had an issue with it since I started using it 8 years ago-- I use grade 8 bolts to attach it to the plate steel and never had any issues with the bolts either-- but then again I dont shoot the chain or bolts, just the plate

I like rubber stall mate on small targets (under 12 inch). Stabilizes quicker than chain (less swinging). But on the heavier steel I have chains. They will last forever.

my chain is hardened steel also, never had an issue with it since I started using it 8 years ago-- I use grade 8 bolts to attach it to the plate steel and never had any issues with the bolts either-- but then again I dont shoot the chain or bolts, just the plate

didnt say that-- I said I never hit the chains or bolts at least so far (but they do receive bullet splash and this has not damaged the chain or bolts as of yet) I pretty much dont have issues with drop when it comes to shooting steel at the range as I already know my drop before I shoot the steel-- its the wind calls that I am off on which would show left/ right POI changes not up/down

now pistol is a whole nother story, I pretty much hit everything except the plate but pistol rounds dont seem to damage the chain or bolts, I suck with open sights (why I added a red dot to my hunting pistol)

I got a short length of 1/2" thick conveyor belt from Grainger. I cut it into 2" wide strips and a 6.5 creed hit on a 12" 3/8" plate will move it enough to tell at 700 yards. My first thought its, you need a bigger gun Have yet to hit the straps.

I hit my steel target...JK

I use chains, rubber, and most recently these steel hooks from Amazon. The steel hooks are quick and easy!!!

I use truck cargo strap webbing (four inches wide) that has been taken out of service from damage. Works really well, and bullets leave neat little holes that so far haven't been a problem. We have accidentally hit the head of a bolt and put the target on the ground but we are a long way from replacing a strap. They will catch jacket fragments, so must be handled with caution.

The best system I have seen is 4 chains spaced apart (So if you do hit one) you don't end the shooting session and can continue shooting. the chains were about 10 to 12" long and allowed the target to react and direct the bullet in a safe direction but stabilize quickly.

The hardened chain and the length helps to prevent the bullet from cutting the chain. Ti also allows the target to ring better without dampening (What some of us like to hear).

Also don,t hang the gong with swing set chain or it wont be hanging long, use 1" plus chain.

When I ran the local pistol range I was always replacing the hardened bolts that held the chain to the plates. Seems the chain would move enough to absorb the bullet's energy but not true re. The hardened bolts. Long story short only shot the plates (smirk)
