For 1 that carrys a pistol while hunting?

I have a 20/22/24 lb spring. The 22 is the best compromise. It will allow me to shoot 180 fmj bullets also. The 24 won't eject them and the 20 lb spring isn't heavy enough for the 220s IMO.

Great good information, we don't shoot anything less than the 180gr bullets. I'm not a fan of small bullets going fast. We don't shoot enough or practice enough to try shooting anything other than what we are taking hunting with us. It sounds

I used to shoot LBT 300 grain (WFN profile) hard cast bullets in a 44 magnum, for both hunting and competition. They drive deep and straight, both near and far. They're a handful, but amazingly accurate, even out to 200 meters!

As for my side arm I pack a Glock 10mm with 220 lead bear loads. I hunt a lot of Western MT where the populations of griz have seen a large increase and I have run across fresh track on multiple occasions fortunately they have not run over me. I second some of the other guys, hollow points will not penetrate a large animal such as a bear deep enough to cause fatal damage in a short enough time to possibly save you. I prefer the 10mm to the 44 mag just because I get 15 plus 1 as opposed to 5 or 6 in a revolver.

No way now how would I carry a hollow point in my 10mm for 4 legged protection, 2 legged sure but not 4....Buffalo Bore is a good way to roll sure there's other great hard cast options as well.

This thread got into it pretty good.

I dint think the hard cast isn't as important as the qualities of the load/bullet. Think heavy, flat, crushing, penetrating smashing. Rather than pushing through like ball type bullets. Any of the flat nose hard cast, plated/jacketed, solid would be similar. I think the Lehigh looks good and am going to try them in my Marlin 45/70.

This is what I use:

In my personal opinion from growing up around guys that have hunted in bear country their whole lives and can attest to what is most important in an unfortunate circumstance of an attack, the most important thing to remember in such a situation is getting as many shots on target in the quickest amount of time. Yes the larger 44mags will certainly have more immediate stopping power however having 10 additional rounds at my resource gives me significantly more confidence in what i carry. More shots on target, and quick draw capability equals a better yet not certain chances for survival in an attack.
