One “Do it All Cartridge” - All of NA

A subject that has been "beaten to death..... with many side-stepping the thread intent. Some choosing custom or full "wildcat" chamberings, some picking rifle/cartridge combo's with impractical weight for everyday, various terrain use by "normal" humans, factory ammunition must be available, potentially needed as a stopping cartridge. So, here's the criteria for the challenge.

Rifle/Cartridge must meet this criteria: only one rifle allowed
#1 - used for all North American Big Game (including dangerous game - assuming no back-up)
#2 - rifle weight - under 11.0 pounds (scoped, fully loaded, slung)
#3 - If a bipod is used - total rifle weight cannot exceed 11.0 pounds (scoped, fully loaded, slung, and bipod)
additional points for combo's coming in at less than 9.0 pounds
#4 - factory cartridge - (improved chambering allowed) must be able to fire a factory cartridge
#5 - various terrain - thick timber/brush to hunting elk, sheep or goats in the mountains, to wide open western plains
#6 - cartridge....bullet weight, bullet (cup-core, partition, mono) design (based upon a potential mixed bag hunt in "big" bear country - no back-up) and brief explanation for your choice

.338 Win Mag; Model 70 winchester; 24 inch barrel; Boyd's laminated stock; 2.5 - 10 power Vortex Viper scope; 250 grain Nosler Partition. I'm sure there are equal set ups, but none objectively better.

338 RUM, any bonded/mono bullet. Lone Peak Razor TI, fluted #3 or a carbon barrel sitting in a McMillan Hunter.

375 Ruger, Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan, 2-12 Leupold VX6. It will take down anything in the world. It is acceptable for anything including elephant! I have used it on racoons to blue wildebeest, lots and lots of pigs! Ammunition is available world wide!

With those criteria Defiance CRF action or completely reworked and tuned Model 70, 24 inch #5 RockCreek, Nightforce 2.5-10x42 NXS in tip of scope base of my design, all in a McMillian Rem hunter stock, chambered in 338 Win shooting 250 Bergers for most shooting and 255 Shock Hammers for when needed. Deliberately would make it 10.5 lbs though I could make it under 8 lbs without issue.
It would be built specifically to not need a brake and to be extremely handy with excellent recoil recovery.

My thoughts exactly(340 or 375), I've used them both extensively can't get much better for covering all those basis. Only I'd change to this list is #2 IMO should be 9 lbs all up and that's it. But that's just me...

This screams reliability to me. So all margin types are out. I agree with moosekiller's cartridge choice. I'd put it in a Macmillan stock and roll Nosler E-tips or Partitions in it. Big bear...pffft. lol.
