22-250 for deer?

Have a 220 swift that I use 50 grain blitz kings to take deer out to 300. Head or neck, but have done chest hits. All with 100% success. I use a suppressor and 22-250 is same thing. Go for it. By way, I am a 300 mag type guy but sending that little thing quietly on occasion is a blast. Good luck. Do your homework, nobody likes a wounded animal

There isn't a 22-250 in the world that will shoot 4300 fps with a 53 gr bullet your dreaming
I'm sorry do disapoint you but Yes I shoot that 22-250 1000 PLUS yards and hit the target every time, standing and Running. I've had a gun in my hands since I could hold one at 3 yrs old. I shoot a lot and I know my guns. I'm not a weekend shooter I live in Montana and Eastern Montana we have very long shots in the hills for BIG Muley's and Big White Tail. plenty of Coyotes and Fox, towards the middle of the state and further west we have BIG Elk. Unless you have hunted with me don't tell me that I can't shoot that 22-250 1000 Yards. I hand load every round and always the same load. I know where that bullet is going before I pull the trigger.

Ok, so just an update from this past season, I didn't let the lil ones take the 22-250, we ended up with a m70classic Boss and bought a second stock and cut it two inches shorter and let them take that with us and hearing protection! It worked great and had no problems!

what bullets who makes them

22-250 great little varmint cartridge. For deer yes it will kill a deer but if the shot is off. You may never recover the deer. If your looking for a gun for young shooters I would recommend a .243 as the smallest caliber for deer
Sure it will work....is it the best....no. If it is the only gun you have there you go. But we all have a good reason for another gun....

4300 fps could be possible at very high altitude if also neck sizing ... the case is blown out and with a 26"bbl. I wouldn't say never. I am getting 1000 fps above expected results with my 220 swift and I checked it with 2 chronographs. 4300 fps with 40 grain Federal factory ammo at about 800 foot elevation. I never had an opportunity to try it at 8, 10, or 11000 ft elevation. That woiuld be interesting. ok, 40 gr is not 53 gr, but I've seen weird things.
Grim reaper...do you happen to have photos of your chronograph? That's impressive.

If you guys are reading this forum, you have more than 1 gun. Why don';t you use a suitable caliber for deer? If you want to experiment why not try shooting Prairie dogs with a 308 or 45/70. A 22/250 will kill a deer but why? You know it's not the best thing to do!

Agree with most of the above. It will work, great for neck shots. Have killed with a shoulder shot but no exit and will run. Best bet is neck shot. Used a 22-250 a lot as a kiddo.

I have a hard time understanding how someone can't figure a 22-250 won't clean a deers clock, maybe I've just shot to many deer and antelope with one, maybe people just don't know they make bullets in 22 cal that are not varmint bullets but bullets like corelocks, partitions and many other soft point, I typically shoot them right behind the shoulder and they run 30-50 yards and tip over, just like when I shoot them with my 250-3000, 243, 6.5 Creed or 270 WSM but with less recoil, heck I've had deer make it farther shot behind the shoulder with a RUM than I have a 22-250!!

Michael I think you hit that right on the money. I have shot prairie dogs with my .300 WM, but prefer not to shoot deer with my .223. Since I'm from WY and your from Cali, please don't tell my friends that I agreed with you.
