Sauer 100 Classic 6.5 CM

My limited knowledge of US coins suggests that coin is a Dime? If so that group is less than 0.45" at 200 yards using factory ammo? I have read that the Sauer 100 shoots well but that is incredible!
Well done Jon!

74sharps: That is Bushnell Nitro 5-20X44SF with a Mil (Milradian) reticle. The SF adjusts parallax as close as 10 yards! I got it on sale and it is worth way more than I paid for it in every respect. For only $300 dollars more than what I paid, I could have gotten another scope that would be just as good. Glad I didn't follow the common advice! So far, I'm pretty sure that I can use the mil-marks for shooting at exact distances out to 400 yards or maybe farther. I have already calculated the drop in mils for the 140 grain Fusion, but you can do it for any load and use the mil-marks to aim dead on at distance. I know the knob crankers wouldn't approve, but this is not an extreme LR rifle. It is a light hunting rifle for my deer camp, where shot opportunities rarely exceed 400 yards.

Who knows? If the groups get any smaller than a dime at 200, I may have to bolt it down on a heavy tripod and start cranking turrets somewhere out West where the deer and the antelope and the real LR Big Boys play. Just kidding, this is a carry rifle.

Nice shooting Jon. That Sauer is starting to like you. What optic are you using?

Tested a brand new to me ammo today from a fairly new ammo maker in the Sauer 100 6.5 CM. Ammo Inc. 140 grain Accubond. This is a bullet I would have confidence in for deer hunting, just on reputation alone. The first group I shot with this ammo had two holes touching, so I decided to shoot another group to see what it would do. 200 yards. About 1/2" at 200. Not as good as the Hornady Black (.212 MOA) but I'm really only interested in Hunting Bullets.

Also tested Berger 156 grain today and I was not surprised to find that the 22" medium sporter barrel with a 1:8.66 twist cannot stabilize the 156 grain bullet. Fired three, all three key-holed at 200 Yards. Good thing to know if you have a Sauer 100 in 6.5 CM. But who wants a 6.75 lb rifle to shoot heavy bullets for 1200 yard shooting? Everyone, I guess, but it may not be realistic.

Jeepers Jon, after one inch at 200 yds, what more could one ask for from a "carry rifle"? Great buy on that Bushnell, I've heard they're nice scopes. You and that 100 are going to get along splendidly. Appreciate the excellent review. I however may be off in another direction, there is a Sako mannlicher in 308 that's tugging my string. We'll see, I may be back...

74Sharps, Funny you should mention Sako; and yeah, any full-stocked rifle is mesmerizing. It's like they hypnotize you with all the long sleek wood and you don't even realize you just typed your credit card number:D

When I began my search for a new lighter kicking rifle, I considered the Winchester 70 Featherweight, since I have one in 270 WSM that is a love story. But I also looked at Weatherby Vanguard, Browning X-Bolt, Howa, Bergara, etc. I had come to the conclusion that I wanted to go all in and was seriously wanting to get a SAKO 85 with a beautiful walnut stock; but very expensive. A pretty exhaustive search. So when I saw that Sauer had a new rifle I was shocked at the price--actually floored to see for the first time in my life a Sauer I could actually buy with a clean conscience. I still think the Sako 85 is gorgeous, but will it shoot dime-sized groups at 200 Yards? Looks like I will never know. And since my Sauer does shoot dime-covered groups at 200 Yards, I'm OK with that😇

I suppose if this new Sauer would only shoot 1" groups, I would look at it and hate it. But ever since I got a couple of 0.212 MOA groups @200 Yards, that Beechwood has taken on a special glow in my eyes. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think a large part of the beauty is in the smallness of the groups😏

Well said Jon, that Sauer will make an outstanding hunt companion. The Schnabel fore end on the Sauer tripped my trigger. Those touches are missing nowadays and when you see them and you can afford them ya gotta have em. I may get one, but for right now, it'll have to wait. I need to scratch an older itch. Have fun with that rifle!

I was intrigued by the Sako 85 Varmint. I'm sure it is a consistent shooter, but if I remember rightly, it was about 8.5 lbs out of the box. And that is the only thing I could see as a drawback, that and the price. How much is the Sako Mannlicher stock that you are interested in?

I saw the Sako at a local gunshow, the price tag had $875.00 on it. Never had a Sako, and I thought at that price, it may be an upgrade from the MK X I left go a couple of years ago. However, I do not know for sure if the guy still has it or not. My luck, it may have already fallen into someone else's hands.

Good shooting Jon! That is a really nice looking stock, esp. being Beech.
It surprises me that a European Co. would produce a 6.5 with that twist. Way back the 6.5's have had faster twists.

Yes I thought so too. It shoots 135 Berger's well too. I got 120&130 to try next time. I wonder if Sauer built this with lighter bullets in mind?

I went to the Optometrist on Wednesday and found out that my right eye is not seeing as well as my left with my current contac lenses. So some new trial lenses are ordered. So today I shot with my current lenses (not 20/20 eyesight). But even so, there is cause to rejoice--even though I can't see well with these lenses, the rifle is still shooting better than most. I wonder what it will do when my trial lenses come in and I can finally see clearly again.

The new Sauer continues to amaze me with factory ammo. Heaven forbid that I should ever handload for it; there would probably be some violation of the gun control laws that would force the powers that be to confiscate my rifle--all for the good of the people, lest anyone feel threatened.

It was way too windy for my normal 200 Yard Target Test, so I shot some new factory ammo at 100 Yards. Most folks would be happy with this. But I'm waiting for a day when the wind isn't goofing things up to try these ammos at 200 to really compare them. But I can certainly see they have potential in this rifle.
First target is HSM Tipping Point 130 grain Sierra Gamechanger bullet.
