NX8 or mark 5

But it didn't fail and there weren't tracking issues with the Mark 5HD? Your preference might be the NX8, but the Mark 5HD doesn't have a reputation for poor tracking. A simple google search will confirm that. Their new high end scopes are awesome and function flawlessly.

It is possible that a company like Leupold had their ear to the ground and improved their product. Guys bought a VXII for $300 15 years ago and expect it to track like a $2k scope. It doesnt and they get butthurt and whine on the internet.

you mean leupold May have improved on their crap mark 4 line of optics? Isn't that there job for crying out loud. I refuse to buy leupold because of the $1100 plus leupolds I've bought in the past. Say what you will but I refuse to throw good money after bad.

Like I said earlier - my first experience with Leupold was with the newer VX5HD VX6HD stuff - I never experienced the Mark 4 era. My experience has been awesome. i run them out to 1250 regularly and they have been flawless. YMMV

I also hold grudges, thats why I won't ever own another burris optic, so I get it. I guess I am just lucky I jumped into the Leupold optic world when I did.

Soooo, you have no experience with a Mk5 but don't like it, got it. You're commenting on an Mk5 vs NX8 thread, so which NX8 ya got? What do & don't you like about 'em?

You prefer Kahles because they pass your stringent testing regime....although you won't say what that is. Which Kahles ya got? What do & don't you like about em?

Correct, you Are Finally listening sort of. I have not and will not own a mark 5. There are consequences for making crappy products for years. At this point I refuse to buy leupold unless it's a binoculars. I'd be happy to text a mk5 but I'm not spending my money on it. Feel free to send yours to me and I will do an honest evaluation of it.
Since you asked I do own a nx8 but have not mounted it in a set of rings yet. I've got A khales 1050 and a 525. I've got one March highmaster left and numerous NF scopes. The khales has the best mechanicals. They do not however have the best glass in my opinion. To be honest it's hard to beat the old nf br scopes for the money. I do all my load development with the same old nf br 42. If you are seriously wanting to know why I prefer the khales I'd be more that glad to pm you about it but I'm certain you don't care and just want to argue. If the mark 5 leupold is the best scope you have there is nothing wrong with that. More power to you but I'm just pointing out that leupold does not preform as well as other manufacturers on average.
If you don't know how to use a double base mount and a scope with frozen mechanicals you need to do some research. And to be honest if you haven't compared ur mk5 to a frozen scope I don't see how u can have that much respect for ur scope if the only test you have done is a ladder test without testing against a know perfect hold hence the frozen scope. I believe my mount was made by field and cave but I'd have to check to make sure as I bought it second hand.

if leupold has upped their game with the newer line of scopes that is great. They may very well be good scopes. I don't know anyone around here that has one to test. I'd like to use one for a bit.

Nx8 all the way, You get a little more and less on top and low end magnification and the glass in the nx8 to me was superior. I've had two Mark 5 3.6-18x scopes, one with non illuminated tmr and the other with illuminated tmr reticle and they both had an unacceptable amount of CA.

I read some of the posts... Not a Leupold supporter by any means... I bought a Mk5 with a tremor 3, best tracking scope I own. I'm ordering another and I have plenty of time behind "better glass".

This makes more sense - you have zero experience with either scope but still think one is garbage and the other is great. The Mk5 is not the nicest scope I have. It was the first Leupold I bought, and honestly I'll probably replace it with a TT315M unless something more interesting is released ( and available) at Shot.

I do love the internet science though. Guys that wouldn't even recognize a differential equation, can't draw a free body diagram, struggle with the scientific method, and have never written a testing specification in their life become 'testing experts' on the internet, lol.

coming from the fellow that doesn't know to test against a frozen scope on a double mount. Makes no sense. Athlon makes scopes that will track on a simple ladder test. But I don't think they make a top tier optic Lol.

I personally like the NX8 far more than the Leupold. Leupolds do not have a great reputation for tracking. Some will defend them but failures are still prevalent. I think for the money and with all the current options why would you even chance it? NF all the way for me.

"Prevalent"? I own now six VX6's four Mark 4's and four VX3 tacticals none of which have ever had tracking problems.

Yes, some people have had tracking issues but to say they are prevalent simply isn't true.

Haha, this is hilarious. The comment was made that Leupolds don't track. I responded with the real world fact that mine does. Maybe you don't recognize that testing zero retention is separate from testing tracking. The fact that you can't differentiate a ladder test from a tall target test just proves my point further. Good luck with your internet science friend.

I dunno who mentioned ladder tests back always but ur correct about the tall target being posted in a pic sometime back.
you act as though your mark 5 is a top tier scope. Whatever made you assume this really shouldn't. I can tell your a leupold fan boy so I will quit arguing with you. It's like explaining capitalism to a liberal.

You obviously have been reading what you want to hear and not what I've written. I'm not a supporter one bit, I've just conveyed my real world experience regarding the topic of this thread (you should try it sometime, haha). I'm not sure why your feelings are so hurt that a Leupold tracked 100%.

Wow this got derailed a bit...
I will totally agree that if a person has no experience with a scope they have zero business commenting about it.

I had a vx5hd that failed a tracking test miserably, however the Mk5's are another beast.
I have two mk5's, a 3.6-18 and a 5-25.
They both passed tall target tests perfectly, I've used one for PRS and I was not the only guy running one.
I've yet to hear about one that didn't track or hold zero, and I've shot close to a thousand rounds behind the mk5's last year with a ton of dialing out to 1400 yards
