264 Win Mag RL26 Data/recommendations

I recently acquired an 1986 Remington 700 Classic, 24" 1-9" twist 264 Win Mag. very fresh looking bore! Not new to Reloading just this caliber. I have H 4350, H 1000 and RL25 but seeing the numbers RL26 is putting up I'm interested in getting some. I have lots of Berger 130 & 140 gr HVLD's but I am willing to try other projectiles as well. Been looking at the Swift Scirocco 2 130's and 129 gr Nosler accubond LR. Not opposed to Barnes either. Any data or recommendations on the caliber and or components mentioned would be appreciated. This load/rifle will be used on Midwest deer from 100 to 500 yards at around 500-1500 FSL Thanks in advance.

Sierra's latest manual lists Rel26 for the 264 Win Mag. With Win cases, WLRM primers and their 130g Game Changer bullets they suggest a MIN load of 53.6 gr (2750 fps)
MAX Load 62.5 gr (3000 fps).
Their accuracy load is with Rel23 at their MAX Load of 57.1 gr (3000 fps),
MIN load is 50.6 gr (2750 fps).
COAL 3.300".
Usual precautions, start low and work up slowly.

I run the 140 class w/ Retumbo and the new Berger 156 w/ N570. Being a 9 twist, 156 probably won't stabilize. Also see a lot of guys running H1000. N565 is another option for the 140s. Unfortunately all are hard to find powders.

I see Retumbo & H 1000 frequently and I've seen some VV powders here and there. I already have H 1000 & RL 25 for my 6.5 Saum so I can go that route if I can't score some of the others. My LGS is so high per pound he always has some unicorn powders available lol.

Ok another question... If I use new 7mm Remington Magnum brass will I have to ream the id of the neck? Would it be one pass in a Redding FL sizer die?

264WM brass is available. I prefer proper head stamp when possible. Winchester brass is pretty inexpensive. I use Nosler in it now but did initial break in and load development w/ Winchester.

You will not have to do anything to necks. My recomendation is to get some ADG 7mm rem mag brass and neck it down, as their brass is much better than remington, winchester, federal, nosler, etc. I am waiting for their 7mm mag stuff to get back in stock, currently have been using federal 7mm mag brass.

I use Retumbo, HBN coated 147's @3260 fps max, loaded those around 3240.

HBN coated 156 EOL's around 3175 max in federal brass. Loaded them to 3070 with a low pressure but very consistent load.

With your 9 twist, 140's will be about max, maybe even too much. This case is overbore enough though, you won't run out of room even with light pills and Retumbo. A max load even with the long 156's still had extra room in the case. I would try that or H1000, possibly some VV powders if you can find them, I hear they are pretty stable as well. I would give you my data, but it's only for heavier pills and won't be of much use for you.

Personally, if your going to try a mono bullet, check out Hammer bullets.

I have a Rem SF2 with the same twist . The heaviest I found that would shoot well , under .25 , was the Berger Classic Hunter 135's. I used RL25 because I had it on hand. Not the fasted at 2985, but an ES of 8. A lot of people knock WW brass but it works well for me.
I would like to try the RL26 if I ever find some if only for the copper fouling agents in it.

Mine likes 64 grains of RL26 and a 140 Berger, fairly mild load, 3100 fps. But excellent accuracy, and very hard on game animals! I use Norma 264 brass and a Rem 9.5m
