Why is the 6.5 CM much more popular than the .260 ?
On paper the .260 is better, flatter, more energy; but not as popular.

Is it because of all the magazines articles ?

6.5 CM ammo is way more accurate 260 ammo....
Also, SAAMI spec for old school 260 is a 9 twist. The superior 6.5 CM SAAMI spec is an 8 twist which stabilizes heavy for caliber bullets (like the 140s) better.
The consumer has spoken. It is not the magazine articles. IMO anyways.

Remington sucks - their marketing sucks, the R&D sucks, they have no idea what long range hunters/shooters want or need. Thats why none of their 260 offerings came with a twist rate fast enough to stabilize the high BC 6.5 bullets.

Edit: to sum it all up they are idiots and they suck. The 6.5 creedmoor never would have been necessary if Remington hadn't screwed the pooch on the 260.

I don't think this is an accurate statement, but I will say there are far more factory ammo offerings in 6.5 creedmoor.

The 6.5 CM is the flavor of the month. Hornady supports it with both marketing savvy and ammo. So if you are talking 'off the shelf' rifles and ammo, then the 6.5 CM gets the nod. If you are talking ballistics, then the CM can't touch the venerable 260 when shot with hand loads.

Poor marketing by Remington and Hornadys design is more AR platform friendly. Brass availability has also been limited at times for the 260. Maybe that was only during the Obama crisis but I couldn't find any for a buddy with a 260 during that era.

I had a Needsmor, now I'm sporting a 260AI. Had I known the difference when I bought, I would of gone with the latter.

lol this makes me laugh. Yes the 260 would outshine the 6.5cm with handloads BUT it's not as drastic as you make it. From all the loadings ive seen the 260 gets maybe 50-100fps more than the 6.5cm....everything else being equal. How much does that truly gain you? I wouldn't use the "cant touch" wording you did unless it was smashing it at least 150fps consistently.

Yeah, but what did you do to them? I guarantee they aren't stock guns anymore. I have M700s as well. Trigger and stock swaps at a minimum? Probably a new barrel to get the twist you want? Big green survived on the military contract reputation and got lazy.
