I just purchased a Remington 700 chambered in 270 wsm from a local gun shop. It was on the used rack and sporting a Mc Millan stock . Looked like new not even a scratch on the bolt face. Before I skim bed and work up a hand load I like to sight it in with factory fodder before I go any further so I can see how she acts before improvements are made. All I had was some Federal 130gn power shok.
2 boxes 2 different lots . 1 shot felt good went to eject and the bolt was locked up , now I didn't have to beat it open but it was extremely tight.
the case has ejector marks and slight ridge around primer other than that the brass looks fine .
So I took one from the other lot same exact thing. I've never had this happen with factory ammo. I checked
The chamber dimensions along with the free bore and everything seems spot on. The ammo was store bought from Wally World . This really stumps me. Maybe they load these that hot ?
What's your thoughts ?

Did you give 'er a good cleaning? Is it a factory barrel or aftermarket?

I did give it a good scrubbing
Light coat of oil and dried up with cotton jag .

Howxdo you know it hasn't been switched around...has Remington factory rifles ever had McMillan stocks on them from factory.....i dont know...just asking here...

Could have been switched . I have a set of go and no go gages that are loaned out ,just as soon as I get them back I will check. Although the fired brass is with in specs . I will take some pictures of the brass in the morning. I'm on a hunt right now .

My Christiansen ridgeline was like this, I called them they said they make their guns tight to go ahead and shoot it and it would loosen up. Which it did and its a great shooter. Up to you but if its not popping primer might just keep trying it. I put a little lube on bolt face and case end of case I already shot and just worked it back and forth about hundred times that helped a lot.

I had the same exact problem with a savage 308 win. Factory ammo would lock the bolt up and have ejector marks and flat primers. I rebarreled it. It went to 3 different smiths and nobody had any answers. I was done with it so now it's a 6.5 creedmoor for the kids and it shoots great.

It was mentioned above and I bet he's right, check for oil in the chamber.
Dry patching the barrel won't get it but if you wrap a patch or piece of cloth around a brush so it fits tight in the chamber and dry it out I bet your problem goes away.

Check to see if the bullets are jammed into the rifling, causing over pressure.

Just repaired a friends rifle with a undersized chamber, It looked under 15x magnification like the reamer used was worn heavily and undersized the chamber. Headspace was minimum as you could barely close the bolt. Since it was already chambered, I just put a "Good" twice used reamer in by hand and cleaned it up. All is good in the world now. Measuring brass is a crap shoot!!! Brass will spring back at times and the technique to measure it is almost impossible to repeat when 0.0015 is the difference between good and bad on a case head expansion.
The main take here is Don't listen to our guesses! get it checked by a gunsmith that is chambering custom rifles and not one that just does trigger jobs on 1911's. They will normally charge a hours time to do this.
