I am sure there are many that will do the job!!! I am building a 28nosler with a 28" Hart #5 contour 1:8 twist, and really looking at what pill I want to send down, I know each barrel has it's on likes, BUT what do y'all think for White Tail deer! Our bucks down here close to the Mississippi River in North East Louisiana run 200-270lbs, doe's will run 165-185 lbs, shooting ranges will go from 48yds to about 700yds. So I have really thought about the Berger 195s, figures about a 3000ish muzzle velocity, but also have looked at the 175 Berger elite hunters and the 180 VLD. Or the 168 or 175 accubond LR.
holding up at 400yds and in is probably more important then 400+. So the falter the trajectory is the better and I know the lighter weight would do best but the wind drift will be worse and the further out the heavies will do much better at all things.

So if y'all were in this boat how would you have the barrel reamed as far as throat....I know some set up really long for the 195s but I am concerned about doing that and being kinda stuck with only that round....I may be over analyzing this lol.

also what pill would y'all be most interested in knowing that WT will be the primary game!!!

I'm not sure what bullet to recommend for you, but I wouldn't throat the barrel for the long bullets and be stuck with that load. I just like to keep my options open.

You need a tough bullet at the 28 Nosler speeds, the ABLR is soft unlike the original Accubond so I would avoid that one for a close range shot.

The Federal Edge TLR might be tough enough bullet to try out. A Hammer might also be a good option.

I know the 162gr SST on the 7mm Rem Mag will do what you are looking for but I dont know if it will hold together on a close range shot on the 28 Nosler.

I know some Bergers do blow up at close range but maybe the heavier ones might work.

ELD both X and M won't work at close range either.

Maybe the 160gr Accubond and as I mentioned before the Edge TLR or even the Bonded Bear Claw, Scirocco or the Interbond might be good options.

I use the 28 nosler in south Texas our bucks get to 250lbs or so at most. Same distance shots and I'm pretty happy with the 195 berger thus far.

When you're shooting those long heavy for caliber bullets, throating the barrel is going to give you the best accuracy. I would probably consider getting a second barrel for shooting lighter bullets if you want to consider lighter bullets as well.

That Nosler is going to have more than enough balls to push those heavy pills fast enough to make lighter bullets kind of unnecessary in my opinion. What are you going to want to shoot with that 7mm light speed destroyer that you would want to use 140 grain bullets on? LOL.

On the cup and core bullets id stay above the 175 grain end. On a bonded bullets 160 grain and up.
With a heavier cup and core bullet you are more than likely to get a pass through on cross section shots especially at closer range. boils down to what you want the bullet to do and how far you shoot. If your max shot is say 500 yards the majority of the time then any will work. When you start shooting a lot further other work better than some.

With that being said I use a 06 with a heavy bullet for 300 yards and in. Fast bullets in thick woods in the south can be deflected of twigs/brush. Shot a lot of great buck through trash with those heavy bullets in the 06. When I start getting in chops or open area where I can stretch the string as they say I let the Berger's fly.

I have a standard chamber and have zero problems with the 195s. I'm running at 3012 FPS with retumbo. Shooting in the .3s. Best group was covered with a quarter at 300 yards.

I would shoot the 160 accubond or 143 hammers

My preference for your needs would be a Bonded core bullet in the 160 to 180 weight class. at your distance there is very little if any advantage to the heavies and the bonded bullets can perform at very close distances and long distances.

Like you stated also, don't over think or design the throat. The designers of the 28 Nosler knew what they wanted/needed and throat'ed to get the most out of it.

Stay with the Standard chamber and you will be able to use any bullet you want. Also stay with the recommended twist rate. Like you said, Don't over think it.

Y'all have gave me a ton of very good info! For my application I felt the 175-180 Berger's would be my best all around weight or the 160-175 accubonds. I already have the barrel, it's a #5 Hart, 28" 1:8 twist. If I we to go lighter then 160(don't think I would) then I would be running Hammers.
Again thanks for the information! This site and the ppl on it has been a huge help!!

This is pictures of where I am hunting this morning. Also where I shot my 8pt last year at 48yds, but I also have killed deer out along the field out to 500ish. I have ranged deer out to 730yds and really thought about attempting to shoot one at about 700yds last year but I did not feel as if I had done my part to prepare myself for a shot that far and did not want to take a chance in wounding the deer and not able to find it. I had been shooting a 275weatherby 110gr accubonds. As I was finishing this killed an ole doe at 253yds lol.

Do you have to seat the 195s deeper in order to accommodate the standard chamber? I don't have any experience with the 7mm projectiles. I just thought that they would be the same as the 30 caliber variety. I may stand corrected on this one.

0.3 is certainly a solid grouping. I guarantee that I could not a shoot a 0.3 at 300 yards with any rifle. LOL. Shoot, I would be happy with a 3.0 group at 300 yards LOL.
