How old are you? How old do you FEEL?

I'm 63 and feeling pretty fair all in all. Several years ago they put me behind a desk and I gained a BUNCH of weight. Have got rid of 40 lbs so far and feeling younger all the time. Kept up with my 46 year old friend in the mountains and that made me feel good. Felt about 97 when I was trying to keep up with my 39 year old, 6'2" PH who can run like a gazelle :(

64 years young last September. I'm 5'11" 195lbs. I think I still keep up with most hiking the mountains but I do chose my battles wisely. To you youngsters for what it is worth I figure my prime was at 44 years, tougher and wiser than the twenty/ thirty something crowd and smart enough to respect the elder mountain warriors.
Do not work any more so the home chores and hunting have to keep me in shape!

piute,

For almost two years Sue and I have been working out at the gym. First time on the elliptical l lasted a whopping three minutes. I discovered the treadmill uses more calories so switched. Before season this year I was doing a forty pound backpack twenty minutes on a fifteen degree incline. I can go only 2.3 miles per hour. Other wise my heart rate goes about 190. At 75 that can't be healthy.

Al this is a suggestion to join a gym. It is covered by silver sneakers so there's no cost.

I'm 43 pretty quick here, 6'1" and push 300 now. Still hit the gym 4-5 days a week, but I will never have the cardio of my 20's. I worked in foresty, laid out forestry roads and cutblocks for 10 years, hiked 5-6 miles a day with 25-30 pounds in a vest. Back then I was 250-255 pounds. Packing an elk was nothing, now just loading one in the truck needs a 2 day recovery. These days I push a pencil in middle management for a forest company, and have the management tire that stretches the shirt..
This year I got a moose on opening morning, only had to pack it 30-40 yards, I rested for day after, mostly cause it hurt to move. Helped the mrs move her storage room at the coffee shop, moved a couple freezers and a safe. Packed a freezer up the stairs at home. The next day doing dumbbell rows at the gym I herniated a disk and dislocated my pelvis. Feel pretty old now. I would get the usual stiffness and aches before, all the things I broke dirtbiking in my teens aches. But the back seems like a real show stopper, hopefully I can get it to heal right.

43, 5' 8" and 205 lbs, some days feel like 30 some like 50. Definitely need to exercise more and eat healthier. Gained some weight the last few months and I feel it, need to get back to 190 or less and I'll be good to go. Only issues are one of my legs is shorter than the other and I wear an insole to compensate, it can cause some bad lower waist pain sometimes, and I deal with high triglycerides so more of a reason to watch what I eat. Other than that I'm good

Did every one die, no posts for over a year? I have a elk hunt for fall of 2021, also a deer and antelope. I have the same booked for 2022 and working on my 2023 hunts. I live for my hunting. BTW I will be 80 on my next hunt. Keep hunting, it will keep you young and force you to keep in shape.

If that's the case I'm now 79 , still working as a mfg. rep I the fishing & hunting industry and still Whitetail hunting.

I am just the pack mule. My 17 year old daughter was the shooter. 196 6/8" gross as measured by a P&Y official scorer who is my taxidermist. He will be scored in 60 days by a B&C scorer. Biggest deer in my household. Talk about a proud Dad...
Since I've never packed an animal like that, I'll have to show my ignorance and ask a stupid question: Are you packing the whole thing, or do you take multiple trips? I'm not in great shape, I could pack out one of our tiny whitetails like that, but I'm going to guess a Mule deer is quite a bit biggger.

In the spirit of the thread, I am 37, 6' 200lbs, I have been easy on my body so I feel good. We live at about 3000' feet elevation and I can walk for miles and miles without being tired, many times with a kid on my shoulders. My phone says I average 4 miles a day and 20 flights of stairs a day at work, so walking is a normal activity for me. Want me to run? Now that's a different story. Get me in any kind of elevation and I'll be sucking wind and feeling sick for a couple days. I'm not exactly healthy, but I'm working on that because I want to do some hunting that doesn't involve sitting in a blind for hours at a time.

39 years, 6 3/4 tall, 220ish. Lifted weights most my life with decent cardio and lots of walking. Last three years I had West Nile virus for the second time, viral meningitis, and viral encephalitis. All three most likely due to my work environment and little bitty things. Did well with the WN virus except for a rash and crazy tired. did not do as well with the meningitis/encephalitis combination and ended up coding in the ER. Hoping my head will get back to normal in the next 8 years when it will hopefully be out of my system. Before these things was in good shape but needed good sleep to function and got sick easily if I didn't take care of myself. After these things I feel much older and very sluggish in the am for a bit. Very happy to be in the state I am in compared to the alternative and can do almost as much as I used to with the exception I now suffer a bit more after it. Still have major head pressure at times and have to be carful even shooting some of my weapons. It's crazy what getting in touch with your own mortality dose to your mental state and thot process. Keep in shape and take care of the things that mean the most to you. I have two great little reasons to keep myself kicking for as long as I can!
With times like these I highly recommend you do your body a favor and take at least 30 min a day to keep it up. That being a walk, run, yoga(don't nock it!), lifting, and eating as healthy as you can. That and drinking enough water will help your body cope with the increasing stress.

Not whole! That guy was a brute.

I packed out a rear quarter, head and cape first trip. Rear quarter, neck roasts 2nd. My daughter took a front quarter and backstraps/tenderloins first trip, other front quarter and rib meat 2nd trip.

Most I have ever packed in one trip was on a solo hunt. 3 miles each way, 7 canyons in, 2 trips.
1st was rear quarter, head/cape, backstraps/tenderloins, neck roasts. 2nd trip (the next day) was rear quarter, 2 front quarters. That....sucked....

Elk are worse....
