Got a nice old mature blacktail buck on tribal lands this weekend. My first kill with the 6.5mm 147 DRT bullet. Buck was 128 yards away, bullet hit tight behind the shoulder, destroyed the heart, perforated the lungs and exited in multiple chunks out the other side.
He jumped, ran maybe 45 yards and dropped within 5 seconds. An excellent start.
Rifle is a 6.5 CM, Xbolt Hells Canyon Long Range, 2870 fps. 46gr Superformance, Starline brass. CCI200s

They'll run til blood pressure goes to zero sometimes. Congrats on a successful hunt.

Yup, thanx! In my experience they often do jump and run at least a lil ways with heart shots.
The bullet did just what they say it does, come apart gradual and penetrates well in pieces. The exit was maybe an inch thru the hide, a couple peices punched thru that I can see. Bits of copper, tungsten n whatever also found under the hide. Blood trail was steady but light and out both sides.
For lead free that's pretty promising to see. Impact was around 2300fps.
