What’s happening to LRH?

I started posting in 1992 on rec.guns on usenet.
That was before the www got gun lists.
I have seen 100 gun forums come and go.
It is a lot like civilizations live for 500 years and then die.
Civilizations are near the end when men and women look alike.
Gun forums are near the end when moderators get opinionated.

I'm most surprised at the amount of new people posting, and the tripe that they're bringing to the table. I've been here a long time, and haven't posted much--because I have way more to learn than I have to contribute. I only contribute what I have firsthand knowledge/experience with, and post questions where I don't. I just find myself shaking my head at some of the stuff that's posted, and when I look at join date and post count, there is usually a correlation. I also know that I'm spoiled from being here since the inception of the site, and learning from everyone that had was here for one goal, and they had quality info to post. Now it's every Joe Schmoe posting everything that has NOTHING to do with Long Range Hunting/Shooting, and just wanting to enlighten us with their thought vomit and ramblings.

You know I keep reading replies such as yours/this one, and.....I find these replies to be "tripe"!! Please explain to me exactly what your/this "pessimistic" reply has to do with long range shooting!!?? Please because I am sick of the insensitive whining!!!

Replies such as this one fall within the realm of "ENOUGH ALREADY!!! I thought that I was over the "rubbish" responses like this one/yours, however it just popped up again on the "featured threads" list "again". The words smug, snob and clique come to mind when I read responses like this one when referencing "where has the long range forum gone"?? It's gone where "its" forum members have shown an interest, that's where it has gone. You are writing about people (forum members) like we/they are not even in the room; sort of like when someone is talking about someone's sickness in front of them and like they are not in the room!! Because you have been a forum member since 2001, does that give you permission/authority/entitlement to be insensitive and to give negative comments to other's who are seeking to share their information or stories or seeking information on a particular topic??

Unfortunately for some of us "untrained", "ignorant", "incompetent" shooters we're still trying to glean some knowledge about how to become accomplished long-range shooters and reloaders through asking questions about cartridges, reloading techniques, powder, primers, bullets and rifle calibers for various game. I've been reloading for 55+ years, I share whatever knowledge I have to someone looking for answers, and.....I also have gleaned a tremendous amount of knowledge/information on reloading techniques while doing so.

Did you ever think that some of the forum members who are asking the insignificant/ignorant/stupid questions (in your book/mind) might not have a mentor due isolation or other extraneous variable; or, cannot pick up on theories or shooting/reloading/hunting techniques as easily as others and they have a need to ask the same question over a couple of times? Or how about the person who would like to share their experiences or new rifle and who have no one to share it with or to ask questions about that new rifle because they do not anyone to share it with due to logistical/physical/emotional variables? For me pessimism such as I am reading in this thread does nothing to inspire a person seeking information to ask a question; and….there's no such thing as a stupid question!! Negative replies as in this one do not do much for someone to ask a question that is really important to them; not a confidence builder!!

And......a couple of other things, if you or some of the clique would like to know what LEN BACKUS has to say about the forum going so afoul as you so eloquently written in this smug reply, perhaps you ought to try writing him and asking him for his opinion instead of insulting forum members. I'd like to tell you that instead of whining about where the forum has gone maybe you could make some positive suggestions about what to do to make it "what you feel it ought to be to improve it!", or....perhaps find another forum that is of better quality other than this one. Or simply not open the thread if you do not like the title, it's that simple instead of insulting the OP!! What I do is scroll down the featured thread section of the forum and select what I want to read and open up, trust me it's really not that difficult, you ought to try it instead of being so pessimistic. If attitudes such as this/yours were the norm was way back in the dinosaur age, then I am glad that I was not a part of that melee. And....last but not least I'd like to suggest that you find a forum that might teach positive attitude adjustment when addressing other people on this forum. And...Len I probably violated one/some of the rules, however got really fed up with replies/threads like this one making negative remarks about members who are here to seek information or to share their stories, their knowledge and their experiences. And....FEENIX you probably right about closing down this thread, enough is enough already!

Gentlemen, and ladies present, lets all please take a breath and remember why we are all here. We enjoy the sport of shooting and hunting, and as in every sport, there are varied levels of athletes in their own stage of learning and achievement.

VERY few of us were born gifted shooters-athletes, and we all started somewhere and give thanks to someone for our beginnings and growth. The forum is a wonderful platform for all of us, and one of the beauties of such a forum is we can participate or ignore whatever we wish. Anger and judgement are not necessary nor beneficial to our purpose.

Like any sport with high-caliber athletes, it attacks a lot of attention, but just like those same groups, attention comes and then goes. The cream rises to the top, but that does not make the process any less important.

Everyone just please breath....

Haha, I do that 20-30 times a minute.
This was an opinion based thread, makes it a grab bag at best.
A guy still has to honor seniority at times, if you come aboard half way through the journey, you have no idea what it took to get as far as it did until your arrival.

Face it, change is inevitable, but not always welcome on some ends. But then again, some that cannot seem to handle change, end up thriving in the new environment.

Social media has changed the way we interact, some feel a forum is their personal page. Older guys who paved the way may not like how a newer younger guy experiences one big success and has now turned it into fact, and could shoot big bullet holes in the theory. But it is a way of life today, like it or not, heard, overheard, read, now we are all experts.
Good thing is, so far in America, we can set our own limits as to when enough is enough. Most things are not going to regress, something we all need to be aware of.

Thank you for the mediation, but......after some of the elitist remarks mediation got taken off of the table, ENOUGH ALREADY!! I totally agree with what you have written, it's just that the elitist, smug, and contrite remarks go to me; I don't usually go off on someone this guy and this thread got to me. I thought that the thread was over until I read it again in the featured thread section of the forum. The thread has been going on since October 23rd, has 13 pages of some really negative and ignorant replies, I finally felt a need to respond to those remarks made by the elitist group! I ought to subscribe to my own suggestion about editing what I open up.

I feel that it's pure ecomomocs of long range shooting that's very prohibitive...for the average Joe hunting wanting to expand into the longe range shooting world.. Sit down and add up sometime what it takes...as a long range competition compeditor I'll starting to get a little nervous about the costs these days...

Exactly! I don't add it up, I know how much it costs and what it takes to shoot at very long ranges. For me, it's way beyond "hobby level" and takes time, patience, lots of load dev and practice, practice, practice, to get to a high precision level at long range.

For the first 2-3 years, I just watched and pay attention (observe & STHU), til you have something to contribute, above a recruit level. Elitist or not, WE can give the advice, you gotta put in your own work. Yes there are rifle systems and calibers, that have made long range, a shorter path, but put your own work in too.

Use the dam search function, it does work.

I just quoted the breathe part of your post, it was funny, all else spot on.
Like I said, it is an opinion thread, everybody gets a say.
