My oldest got his first Buck this weekend at 6 years old. He made a perfect top of the heart shot at 305 Yards with my custom 243 shooting Nosler 85 Gr partitions. I was ranging and calling out the adjustments. The buck just took about 3 jumps and tipped over tail just spinning!
Lots of practice went into this shot, I knew he could make it cause he went 10 for 10 on clay pigeons at 300 yards this summer. Not to mention thousands of 22lr shot in practice. Also we would practice dry fire over and over again while in the field until his follow through was rock solid and his patients for more dry fire was at an end ;)
I can't help but think the future of long range hunting is in good hands!

That's great. Nice buck as well. Kids can't hunt in Canada till they're 12. Nice you can get them started earlier

Wow!! Nice shootin' there, 'Young Gun' ;)!! Great teaching there, Dad! My youngest daughter is 6 also, but there's just no way she's ready for this yet. I anxiously await the time when she is. Congrats to the both of you.

Congratulations to you both! nice buck and great shooting! What state can 6 year olds hunt in? My son is 4, and the youngest they can pull the trigger in Oregon is 9 within the Mentored Youth program. I might have to visit your state :)

Just about every sentence of the OP is impressive. I can't imagine doing any of that when I was 6. That is a nice buck that he can be proud of.

all of the shooting stuff and the buck are great. but what i'm really impressed with is you are a great father! way to go dad, we need more like you!

We went to MO on an out of state youth hunt,(only ages 6 to 16) but you can here in Illinois as well! only drawback for Illinois is no rifle season and a shotgun would kick him too much.

Thanks! I have a great Father too, I am just passing down the tradition. I am constantly amazed at the capacity for children to learn and pick up on high level skills if you teach them, my boy learned the rules for gun safety and the parts of every type of gun I own before he even started learning his ABC's
