Savage 110 High Country

I'm looking at the Savage 110 High Country in 6.5 Creedmoor for a possible future purchase. Any thoughts on durability, reliability, quality or accuracy. I will reload for this caliber so any thoughts on reloading ?

I held one at the store. Definitely a nice rifle for the money. Just a couple things to keep in mind. I love the savage trigger. It's adjustable and will go down to 2.5-3lb range and with a simple spring change you get them to go super low if you wish. Something a lot of people hate is the blade safety on the accutrigger. I don't find it to be bad at all but some hate it for some reason. The stock is a Tupperware stock BUT it is one of the best ive felt. It doesnt have too much slop in the forend because it does have an aluminum chassis. The rifle is definitely no light weight, even with the flutes in the barrel, but balances ok. Too heavy for what I like personally but a heavier barrel typically leads to a more consistent/accurate rifle. As far as accuracy, Savages typically have some of the best off the shelf accuracy maybe second to Tikka. Depending on the deal you can find there are other options to look into. The browning Hells Canyon, Christensen Arms Mesa LR.

I looked at the Browning Hells Canyon in 6.5 Creedmoor and was not impressed with the sloppiness of the bolt and almost $1000 more.

6.5prc is a pussycat compared to a 300win mag. Mine is a very light weight rifle and kicks like maybe a 308 at most.

I think the Savage would be a fine choice. No more difficult to reload for than anything else I have. I have 110's in .204, 6.5-284 and .308. Only complaint is weak extraction on the .204 but they make a cheap kit for that - quick fix. There's also some cool custom bolt handles out there on the aftermarket if you want to trick it out a bit. All 3 of mine are exceptional shooters. The build quality is more than acceptable and you don't have to worry about getting them dinged up. They're pretty resilient, even though they may not win any beauty contests.

Just one more thought on Savage. They have no accuracy guarantee. Out of 4 savage rifles I had one which would do no better than 3inch groups. I sent it back to them twice. They were able to get it to do a 2inch group and said that it was fine and would not replace the barrel. I ended up throwing a custom barrel on it for 400$ and now it shoots .25inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. That is the only reason I mentioned the Christensen arms and Browning Hells Canyon LongRange. Any ways, Savage has left a sour taste in my mouth as far as customer service goes. That all being said, I think I did get the one rare lemon. They typically are very fine shooters.

As far as 6.5prc vs 6.5creed it truly depends what your objective is. If you will be shooting a lot of rounds and only hunting deer sized game or smaller out to 600 yards, then id be going 6.5creedmore. If this will be a dedicated hunting rig with fewer rounds down the tube and you want a bit more speed (200fps more) then 6.5prc. If Elk is on the table for hunting, then id definitely get the 6.5prc over the 6.5creed no questions asked. From what I have read barrel life, if allowed to cool and such in between shots, should be in the 1200-1500 round count on the 6.5prc. If you do not allow to cool you could burn it out in under 600 rounds. I have both the 6.5cm and the 6.5prc and like them both. If factory ammo is all you will use, then keep in mind the 6.5prc is very limited on ammo choices right now and MAY always be limited if it doesn't take off. The 6.5cm has tons of ammo choices and is definitely here for the long haul. If I had to choose one I would get the 6.5prc because I like a little more speed than what the creed offers but I also reload and I am purchasing a couple hundred empty cases which should last me the life of this barrel if factory ammo goes the way of the Dodo.

the 300 win mag will have a lot more recoil than the 6.5 prc
