Ballastic Calculator or App?

I have Ballistic AE and Hornady apps on my phone. I like the Ballistic AE. I also have a G7 BR2 which you can have 3 different profiles in.
If you feel like you are technology challenged, go to Berger's or Horanady's website, input your data and print off a range card you can tape to your rifle.

I have tried several of the ballistic apps over the years. Most all give very close outputs with the same inputs. By a wide margin, my current preference in a calculator is the Kestrel 5700 with AB. Not cheap, but IMO, well worth the investment. Very easy to use, fast, with very accurate real time environmentals has made a noticeable impact on my hit precision, particularly in PRS, where ranges are known but conditions can vary greatly over the course of a full day match. My preference for hunting is the Gunwerks G7. Ballistic outputs between the G7 RF and Kestrel/Terrapin are the same out to about 1000 yards, and within one click out to 1350 yards. Since I use the Kestrel for wind measurement, it could serve as a back-up if ever needed.

If you use Hornady bullets or ammo they have all the specs in their app but so does pretty much everyone. Once you set up your gun/load profile in there you won't see much difference in all the free apps.

I just looked at the 5700. Do you guys have the elite or regular 5700 if so is the price difference worth it> I don't mind 399 but over 600 want to make sure it would be worth it,

I have the Elite with Link because I own a TerrapinX that can be connected to it. Very fast and capable. If you don't plan on linking a RF to it, the link capability is not needed. is not needed.

Could you define that a little more. Im not a good technology person. Thanks!

I used the Nightforce program for year and had drop chats on my rifle stock. Now my old laptop crashed and I have nothing. Im tinkering with 2 new builds and have nothing to go by. What is everyone using now? I have not been the best technology person but with in the last year went from a flip phone to an I-Phone.
h it
me too I'm lost, missed calls, yada yada yada I am about ready to put a .300 win mag through it..................

the 5700 elite is well worth it and when paired with a range find is out standing and worth every penny when hunting game at long range or just long range shooting 1000 - a mile it helps to make those 1st round hits seam easy

So if you some thing to link up your fine, I get it. Is there any other rangefinder to link up with the elite? I have a older style gunwerks the first year they came out also a Leica 1600.

terrapin, bushnell conx and I think 2 others go to AB site and they have a list

The Elite version of the Kestrel 5700 has a Bluetooth option which is called Link. This enables the Kestrel to communicate with Rangefinders which have Bluetooth.and enabling software to transfer its info to the Kestral. It is a wireless connection. In the case if the Terrapin X, it will automatically send the range, shot angle, and azimuth to the Kestral allowing the Kestral to provide ballistic outputs. Range and simply read your dope off the Kestrel.

Been using JBM on line program for years. I have gotten outputs that were correct (enough?) use the dial up values and wind drift to shoot out to 500M with certainty and repeatability.

Recently got the Ballistics AE app on my phone. There were some discrepancies between the two programs.

Ballistics AE requires more input data. One I missed was correction for a scope using MOA. The default setting is 1 for elevation and windage. It requires "trueing" of the scope's performance. I would have thought the default setting would be what a true MOA scope would do which is 1.047". You must input 1.047 for a more accurate output. Doing that helped align the two programs.

The wind configuration is a very different manipulation when compared to the internet JBM and allows for all sorts of inputs.

Another input called spin and stability must be done. Need to know bullet length as well as barrel twist rate.

While Coriolis input is there I have not tried to input my location.

Still getting some discrepancies between JBM and Ballistics AE with wind drift and drops/comeups but at least the values are close to one another after figuring out some of the more complicated inputs. Once past around 600 yds the two programs diverge slightly in comeups. Drift with begins to diverge at just past 200 yds.

I might still be missing some details not sure. Anyone find anything that would true up the two programs?

Having the ability to manipulate the inputs in the field in areas where you cannot get internet connection is great. I coues wt hunt in a variety of elevations so there are three elevations in the Ballistics AE favorites for my rifle.

I have not had a chance to try the Ballistics AE at my long distance range yet. Quite frankly when shooting out to 500m the differences are so small that I probably won't notice the difference.

Anyone else notice variations between the two programs?
