don't bother with the 338 Win Mag. get a .338 Lapua. The Win Mag could not punch a hole through a bison. 260 Rem on the other end, stay away from the fashionable Creed.

I have a hard time believing that a 338 win mag is insufficient for bison when they were killed in droves with 45-70's back in the day.

Yes, I killed it, but it did not exit the far side. You did not read my post correctly. I have taken bison in fact with a 45/70 on several occasions. A head shot sometimes works but it takes multiple rounds. A 45/110 was the more popular in history for bison. Read the account of the Battle of Adobe Walls where Billy somebody shot an indian chief at 1500 yards with the aforementioned rifle. One gun that works very well on bison is my center fire 50 cal magnum muzzle loader. Only takes one shot to the head. They fall down where they stand. If it is long distance then get out the .338 Lapua from HS precision.

Which three must have calibers based on current bullet selection, not necessarily cartridges. For medium to large game if you only had three choices. List in order from most important to least important as if you would have to narrow down to only owning the first listed.
