I've got about 1000± of the 215s left over from playing with them in my F-TR rifles and I thought I'd give them a whirl in my 300WM (M70), so for those who load the 215 in a 300WM:

Are you single loading? or are you loading to mag length?

Looking at it here it looks like the ideal seating depth (putting the bearing surface back about 2/3 into the short WM neck is probably about ½ an inch longer than mag length in my M70. That's me thinking like a long range (1000 yd) target shooter.

So for those that are running them, are the loads with 75-77gr of H1000 that are noted here single loaded or are you loading to mag length?

At mag length there is a silly amount of bullet in the case.

I've read a lot of posts here that talk about loads but I haven't found one that detailed the OAL or BTO for this setup.

Load the cartridge to fit and feed from magazine. It will do fine with bullet seated a bit deeper. Just start low and work up to what is considered max load. In my experience hybrids are insensitive to seating depth so you shouldn't have any issues.

Just went back and read some details on Broz's 300 win mag with 215s. He said he was shooting them .040" off the lands. If you want to be inspired on using this bullet for hunting here is his great thread on 215 performance on game:

Everyone I know of is running them around 3.7" which will barely fit in the Remington mag boxes I have had and has no problem in a Wyatts box. 75 grains is too high to start depending on brass and powder lot. I would start at 73 working to 75 in one grains increments and then .5 until you hit pressure. 215s typically shoot .010-.040 off the lands and despite what some will say they are just as seating depth sensitive as any other bullet. When doing seating depth testing you will absolutely see it prefer one depth over the others. I am confident they will shoot seated shorter but you may lose some velocity and pressure out at a lower powder charge.

I ended up at .060" out and it fit in the Rem mag box. Definitely load as long as possible to try and take advantage of case capacity.

With that said, I have run them in a Ruger with a short mag box and they shoot decent, but not great.

I found a window of roughly 30 thousands in seating depth where they shot great. Mine started at 30 off and have a COAL of 3.73". Many guns end up shooting great with 76-77.5 grs if h1000. Obviously with up slowly and what for warning signs.
If they won't fit in the mag, just mark the single feed loads with a sharpie. Then load the mag length rounds in the mag. They'll be good enough for backup, but you won't need it. Everything dies very quickly with a well placed shot + 215 Berger.

Thanks for the feedback. When I ran 215s in F-TR my 308 (yea, 308) was running them at about 2550 seated 15 off the lands in a barrel with about a .230 freebore that was set up for them.

I read most of Broz's thread on them a while back. I'm pretty well convinced of the performance. I also picked up a couple of hundred 210s this yr (something off of a prize table) that I'll give a whirl too.

I used the 210 for F-class initially, then moved to 215's.
Tried both on deer here (Sambar), the 215's won out, but since then, Berger has dried up.
Have gone back to 200gr Accubonds and 210gr ABLR in my 300's, both hunting and comp rifles.

The 210 is great at looooong ranges, up close it destroys far too much meat for my liking.

Cheers.

Every Remington I've loaded 215s in ended up around that .060" off area.

The factory chambers I've worked 215s with lately end up at 3.640" - 3.650 OAL. That's with several Christensens and Remingtons. They all tuned up within .3 of 77 grains of H1000 in Norma brass.

The mag box on my M70 is 3.4", I think that shooting the 215s will be a single feed operation.

I'm not a M70 expert but I had a couple of the Winchster Classic Laredo LRH, Heavy Barrel, pass through my ever changing collection of guns (7mm STW and 300 Win).

I was able to purchase a mag box without the spacer to gain some COAL. The 300 or 375 H&H mag box fit in my 300 Win M70. Gets you from 3.4" to just over 3.5". Doesn't sound like a lot but it helps.

This might be an option is you really want to get after it:

I've been looking at the idea of getting a 375 box and see if it will feed w/o modifying the ejector or the bolt stop like you do with the Wyatt's. Midwest gunworks sells them and has them in stock.

@martinakl Do you recall if yours would feed with the 300/375H&H box?
