Weatherby 6.5 RPM?

The 6.5 RPM has more case capacity than a 6.5-06 Ackley. So it will yield higher velocities. The 6.5-06 AI is a good cartridge, but you can't say this is a bad one. It has .264 Win Mag ballistics in a non magnum action without a belt. You will also be able to buy factory ammo, rifles, and components for it without having to fire form or custom order equipment and components. I think it's a great cartridge. It's a step up on the 6.5x284, 6.5 PRC, and 6.5 SAUM.

I think Weatherby is waiting to get their new lightweight rifle, chambered in 6.5 RPM, on the market for a little while. Then I think they'll start building Vanguards in this chambering and offering more for it. I can see other manufacturers picking it up as well. Other than the .264 Winchester and the firebreathing 26 Nosler and 6.5x300 WBY, there's no other commercially available 6.5 at this power level.

My knee jerk reaction is why do we need another 6.5? This isn't doing much more than what I get out of my PRC? But I like the potential here. I'll sit on the sidelines for a while and see what the results are and if someone else starts making good affordable brass maybe I'll build one. Love my 6.5's haha

While it won't do anything my 6.5 Remington Mag won't do, I am interested in this case for a 7mm barrel I already have chambered in the 284. I was underwhelmed by the 284 want to change it. This would be th perfect choice since my action is a long Remington

I personally doubt other rifle manufacturer's will adopt it since the 6.5prc came out they are already dropping money on those. Yes the RPM is faster than the PRC but the PRC is plenty fast and is already out and has many factory offerings in the way of rifles. It is too bad the RPM did not drop a few years back. All the "impulse" buyers have spent money on 6.5prc or 300prc rigs which leaves the non-impulse buyers left who are typical buyers that wait for the round to seem like a lasting round which the RPM is already pretty far behind the PRC. Just my two cents.

The PRC is completely different...you're comparing a short mag/short action cartridge to a long action/standard cartridge. Not everyone makes short mag actions...but everyone makes standard long actions...

Understood but all the major manufacturers already do or soon will have a prc rifle. Again, your average shooter will not be looking at things like short vs long action. Actually, there has been a surge in short action sales due to lighter rifle builds and smaller framed shooters. Lastly, Hornady is advertising the 6.5prc as the bigger bro to the crazy popular 6.5cm which when you get the chest thumper in the gunshop he/she will say I want a 6.5prc. They will not even know what a rpm is. Just saying...

The Weatherby at 4.9 lbs is pretty darn light...

I understand that as well I'm just stating they are so late to the game I doubt other major rifle manufacturers will jump aboard since they have already started producing 6.5prc rifle platforms. It takes a lot to launch a new caliber and they just started pushing the 6.5prc.

Maybe, but look how long the Creedmoor was out until is actually became "popular"...like 10 years.

The RPM won't ever be Creed popular but I bet it'll surpass the SAUM/Gap4s and the PRC and the 26 Nosler.

Hopefully the round takes off. If the performance is that much above a standard case think what Mr. Sherman can do with it. Ultramag performance from a standard boltface:D
