Chamber choice for XP-100

6.5-284 or 25-284.
More horsepower and you do not have to add an extra bolt, like you would for a 6.5 SAUM/PRC/Leopard

Ernie, I don't think I need a big case in a short barreled XP.

This XP will be used mostly for white tail in OK. 6.5 x284 or PRC is too much case for 16" barrel IMHO.

Think I will continue offering the 6.5 barrels for sale, don't really need another caliber to load for.

I have a 20" 30BR barrel wet up for Remington, going to screw it on and check head space. I think it would make a great round for WT. I can cut it down to 16" and be done with it. I already have brass and dies for the 30. It should be fun.

Intuitively I think an over-bore case, with it's resulting excessive muzzle blast, has to be upsetting to the bullet in the up to a couple inches past the muzzle. Forceful turbulence there in that time span can't be good for bullet stability. Maybe when MOD (Deer, etc.) is all that is required it's not that big of a deal, but we all know how upsetting a minor blemish in the crown can be. Wouldn't take much for the turbulence to be non radially uniform and then there would exist the same sort of problem.

It's not a problem. Not only in the cases I mention, but even cases in larger capacity it is not an issue for accuracy whatsoever.

I am unwilling to pursue investigating it at this time, but I am also unwilling to write it off as of no concern. Once all of the larger influence variables come under more rigid control I suspect it will become an item of interest.

I've shot groups under 4 inches at 1000 yards at a 1K match, they were five shot groups with large cases. I put shot upon shot on each other at 1000 yards with even larger case capacity (just using a bipod in a small field bag) , so I am writing this, to let anyone know who's thinking about it that it's not an issue. I'm not trying to argue theory, I am just posting this based on a lot of experience and group sizes at long-range.

6.5 WSM, 6.5 SAUM, 6-284, 26 Nosler, 7 SAUM, 7 WSM, 7mm Remington Magnum Improved, 7mm LRM, 7mm Dakota, 300 RUM.
These are chamberings in specialty pistols that I have either had or do have
Randy Wise competed in the king of the 2 mile with a 15.9 inch 28 Nosler and did well.

Randy -

Howdy !

What will you be shooting @ w/ the newest barrel ?

My initial thought....... .35 Remington .

A lot of XPs came in this chambering, and it's a proven performer in this platform.

Don't think you'd even have to change the bolt face. I have shot a .35 Rem-based
.224" caliber wildcat in my Wichita WBR1375 action w/ .308 bolt face.... and have had no problems w/ chambering or extraction. My Wichita does have an AR-15 style extractor installed, FWIW.

I've also shot .357AutoMag using the same action and extractor. I had the barrel & chamber set-up to shoot it as a true .358" caliber; and not .357" cal.
That helped a whole bunch on potential bullet choices. I used the gun on groundhogs out to 350yd ( longest shot I happened to take w/ it in that application ).
Super-accurate, and a real hoot ! 5-shot 300yd groups @ 5/8" multiple times .

With regards,
357Mag

357, the only reason I was considering the 6x47 was I have a new medium sporter weight Bartlien 7.5 twist barrel sitting on my bench (actually have two of them, want to sell one or both).

So since I am moving to OK in Nov, figured it would be a nice White tail rig. But, it won't do anything my 6BR, 6Dasher, or 308 barrel will do.

I screwed the 30BR barrel on it last night, fit perfectly. Bolt closed tight on some fired 30BR cases that were fired in the barrel. So I going to cut the barrel to 16", bump the shoulder back and be done with it.

Maybe down the road if I don't sell these 6.5 barrels, I will spin it up for the XP.

If you hear of anyone interested, I have to never chambered or threaded 6.5 Bartlein 7.5 twist barrels for sale. We paid $383 each delivered to us. I will take $350 each plus freight.

Ernie, no problem. I love hear/reading everyone's opinion and when we drift of, doesn't bother me at all.

I get anoyed when guys start attacking or making snide remarks. I used to hang out on Calguns allot, way too many opinionated jerks over there. Way to many attacks for me.

I had one the rear grip XP's in 35 Remington, it shot ok, but didn't ring my bell either.

This PD was taken at 346yards with the 6BR barrel. It was right after I built the XP, no paint yet.

I gave the stock to a guy that paints guitar bodies, told him I wanted a paint job that looked like I stole it off some pimp. He missed what I wanted completely, lol
